I always try to eat lean protein with my (good) carbs. I don't have as many

cravings this way. I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day like that.

Hey all -- I was reading various things recently and was wondering if

any of you carefully balance the amount of protein/fat/carbs you eat,

and if so, if you feel more satisfied when you eat more protein. Not

to the extent of an Atkins diet, but consciously eating protein at

each meal and/or snack. I don't do this -- I gravitate towards carbs --

and was wondering if it might not be a good idea to try to include

more balance? If so, does anyone have any advice about this?

Carbs make me feel fuller right after eating but seem then I seem to be hungry

again in less time than eating protein. I eat lots of protein for lunch and can

go all afternoon without getting that hungry feeling, but if I have a more carb

lunch, I am starving again in a few hours.

I don't try to 'balance' things out. But I do notice if I eat more protien

that I am not as hungry or munchy the rest of the day. If I eat more

protien during lunch I am not wanting that 3pm snack.

for me I find if I have protein in the mornings for breakfast I don't get as

hungry during the morning hours. But that also seems to take up a bunch of my

WW points for the day. So I don't do it as often as I probably should

i found that i lost weight well and consistently when i stuck to

eating about 6-8 points a day in carbs, and no more. the older points

program week 6 book (before flexpoints) was all about finding the

right balance and what works for you.

i eat protein at every meal and would be starving without it!

check out that week 6 book!

I balance mine but with 65% carbs, 15% protein, and 20% fat (although often

a little less fat and a little more carbs). Why? Because if you eat too much

protein your body can't use it and it will end up harming your kidneys in

the long run. There is no benefit to eating a high protein diet. Plus as an

athletic person I need those carbs to fuel my workouts.

That's why, Kiti. Protein usually contains fat and so you're going to

consume more calories than carbs. Also proteins and fats stay in your

stomach longer. Carbs are digested and then metabolized quicker. Eating 5-6

times a day (just think of taking three meals and eating portions of those

meals throughout the day instead of those three " magic " times...not five or

six " regular " meals) will definitely help with that. Also combining a small

amount of protein with carbs (complex) and veggies helps. For dinner, my

biggest meal, generally half my plate is a fresh salad or two different

vegetables, 1/4 is a lean protein, and sometimes I'll have a carb or save

that for later.
