Guest guest
Yes they can regress after 5, happens all the time. If you have concerns by no means do a combination vaccine. You can get a mercury free tetanus. Separate them if you feel more comfortable. You can opt out of all if you so choose. Dr. Cave has a book just for this topic, on how to separate vaccines, what supplements to give your child for several days prior to vaccination if you choose to vaccinate. > > Hello, > > I am just curious. > > I had delayed vaccinations with my 2nd daughter, as my 1st had a bad > reaction to her 2nd set of DTP shots. Guest guest
The austism regression usually occurs before age 3, so you should be OK from that standpoint. You don't have to get the shots all at the same time. The most important are DPT and polio. Hep B is not really an issue until adolescence or older in higher risk groups (ie blood and sexually transmitted - just given in childhood because that's when the kids are being seeing regularly from a public health standpoint). It will take several more visits to the Dr. to separate the shots, but usually the offices will allow you to just come in for a vaccine and not need an appt. If your child is having GI issues, vomiting and diarrhea for weeks - has she been seen by a good allergist and worked up for food allergies? Or celiac disease (a simple blood test...1:125 people of European ancestry have celiac, and it is often undiagnosed). Does your child have allergies, asthma and/or eczema? Food allergies and celiac can cause malabsorption of key vitamins (like Vitamin E and B12) that could lead to neurological sequalae including delayed speech. I would look into the gut issues. Diarrhea and puking for weeks? Did you see a gastrointestinal specialist? (Not that they are always helpful...some don't " believe " in food allergies and gut issues). But this is NOT normal. If allergies are the cause, and you eliminate the offending food (usually mutiple foods) - many of your child's symptoms will resolve. You should talk to your pediatrician, and strongly consider supplements. Google celiac disease as well as eosinophilic gastritis (basically allergic gut). See if the symptoms sound familiar. Also keep a daily log of foods eaten and symptoms. A pain to do, but very helpful in figuring out the food item of concern. Milk, wheat and soy are the most common culprets - the reason many children do well on gluten free/casein free diet...so many undiagnosed celiacs and food intolerance). This is a good place to start if you want to eliminate foods. Usually the benefits are obvious within 2 weeks if you've hit the allergy. (IE vomiting, abdominal pain resolves - child starts to gain weight etc). Ask your pediatrician to run a celiac panel before you consider eliminating wheat, if you go down that path. But you need to read the food labels carefully since there are hidden sources of milk and gluten in everything (gluten is a preservative). Even visits to the dentist you need to ask for gluten-free toothpaste. - [ ] Vaccinating an Unvaxxed 5 y.o. Hello, I am just curious. I had delayed vaccinations with my 2nd daughter, as my 1st had a bad reaction to her 2nd set of DTP shots. (Also did badly with the MMR.) I had planned on waiting until she was about 2-ish, and then, possibly vaccinating her. When 2 came, we had no medical insurance, so didn't. By the time she was 3,I realized there was a problem with her speech, and was so focused on that, the vax issue didn't really concern me. She has a new pediatrician who is REALLY pushing vaccinations. She is wanting me to get the 5 in one combo (DPT, Polio and Hep . All done in 3 " sticks " ... which seems appealing on one hand... but, on the other, my daughter is sooooooo sensitive. To everything. So, if she reacts, I won't know what she reacts to. With my 1st daughter reacting, and with my 2nd so far behind in her speech... She has sensory problems, digestive problems... Everything tells me not to do this... But, every Dr's visit is a power struggle. (She says she is Pro-Whatever I wanna do... but, tries to push these evertime... even when my daughter was having severe diarreah and puking non stop for weeks...) I know, at 4, she had Whooping Cough. (We all caught it, and my Grandpa got really sick, went to the Dr and got it diagnosed.) I go back & forth between Polio and Tetanus... (Though, I just read all Tets have mercury, and they can't give the DT to kids unless they are 7...)There is no need for her to be injected with Pertussis. So, do I wait for another year and a half & get her the DT... get her started on Polio.... So confudes... What I am seriously worred about, is her regressing back. She has made such great gains. I cannot live with myself if I cause her to regress even further... But, if she were crippled, how could I live with myself, either? Does anyone know if they can regress after 5??? Guest guest
Children do regress into autism after age 3. My son was 4 when he regressed. We had him on a delayed vaccination schedule, so that may be why he regressed late. If your daughter has had pertussis, there is no need to vaccinate her - why is the doc pushing it? Ask to have her titers checked to verify that she is already immune. I would definitely not have all these shots at once, particularly since you know her sister had bad reactions to her vaccinations. I encourage you to read Cave's book before you make any decisions. Why can't they give the DT shot to her? It's not usually given to younger children because they are at risk for pertussis, but since your daughter has already had pertussis, I don't see the problem. Since your daughter has sensory and digestive problems, she is high risk. Trust your instincts and don't let your ped push you to do something you aren't comfortable with. Do what you think is right for your child - I wish I could go back and refuse my children's vaccines, particularly DTP and MMR. Your daughter is at virtually zero risk for polio if you live in the US. Is that what you are referring to when you talk about the risk of her being crippled? mary > > Hello, > > I am just curious. > > I had delayed vaccinations with my 2nd daughter, as my 1st had a bad > reaction to her 2nd set of DTP shots. Guest guest
Yes an autism diagnosis will not fit, however it is then called " childhood disintegrative disorder " when it happens after the age of 3. Guest guest
Actually, childhood disintegrative disorder has a much more bleak outlook than other ASDs, and it is not true that all children who regress into autism after age 3 have CDD. Kids with CDD tend to worsen dramatically as they become older. A psychologist told us that our son must have CDD because he regressed after 3, but our neurologist has assured us that is not the case, and our son has improved dramatically since he was diagnosed. > > Yes an autism diagnosis will not fit, however it is then > called " childhood disintegrative disorder " when it happens after the > age of 3. Guest guest
All 4 year old shots have the span of 4-6 years, it would be prudent to at least wait until she turns 6. As far as paperwork for school registration, the same physician provided our immunization list with completed shots accompanied by a letter stating that due to my son's neurologically-based apraxia diagnosis, we will defer administration of all 4-year old vaccinations until he turns 6. The doctor was a pleasure to deal with in this regard and my son was completely registered for the school year. I have also heard that school districts will typically accept a blood titer of the antibodies to show protection from diseases/illnesses. If you are interested in knowing if your child received thimerasol, you may visit nvic.com and there is a thimerasol calculator there. You will need to know the manufacturer of your child's shots and their approximate weight at the time. It is important to note that MD's do NOT have an education in toxicology, as it is not a course they are required to take. Most doctors wouldn't know mercury or other heavy metal poisoning if it were staring them in the face. Naturally, a busy doctor is not going to investigate a theory that the pharmaceutical companies and FDA are telling them is nonsense. But the leading toxicologist in the country, Dr. Rashid Buttar, testified the following before congress in May of last year: " Over the last 15 years, the incidence of Autism has rapidly increased in the industrialized nations with the United States and the United Kingdom having the sharpest rise. A lot of the attention has been given regarding the link between mercury and autism, with mercury being the possible factor underlying the etiology of this condition. The issue of whether mercury plays a role in Autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders has been the subject of long debate and extreme political discourse but the evidence is overwhelmingly obvious to even the simplest of intellects once the data is objectively reviewed. " - Dr. Rashid Buttar, Vice Chairman, American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology Its the great debate, but our children are in the middle and it is up to parents to decide what is best for their children because I don't see any sides agreeing in the near future. my two cents, Joanne

Guest guest
RE: all Tetanus have mercury. Your daughter will be getting her tetanus most likely through a Daptacel (sp?) vaccine. It is a DTaP. It has been thimerasol free since it entered the market about 4 - 5 years ago. It was created to replace any thimerasol containing DTaP vaccines. Thus... it is mercury free. Guest guest
Aubrey, I just read your message about the unacceptable attitude of your child's pediatrician and I'm sitting here stunned about the potentially dangerous advice of this MD if this is all for real. I'm aware that there are good and bad in every profession, but this MD sounds like he or she needs to be reported! If adult and child members of a family all of a sudden got sick at the exact same time with " Puking and diarrhea for 3-4 days, it'd stop & recur " that does not sound like " probably allergies " ! It sounds like it could be a number of things such as food poisoning or an illness. Check your child's food log -anything on there that she ate every day that you and your husband, 1st daughter, and you ate just here and there? (perhaps something that wasn't thrown away right away since you guys kept getting it back?!) It is serious that your young child was so sick throwing up, and with diarrhea for so long...it's very easy for preschool children to become dehydrated and I know because I used to be one of those sick children...and I was hospitalized and diagnosed as having celiac. (but again my Mom and Dad didn't have the same symptoms!) You 'can' fire a bad professional, and as far as I know all health care plans allow you to switch primary care physicians and give you the choice of whom you can switch to....even if you end up having to drive a bit further to do so. So to me the question at this point isn't so much what caused the virus/food poisoning or whatever it was since that is resolved. To me it's clear it had nothing to do with allergies or shots since your whole family had it, and GFCF diet has nothing to do with it either -that's besides the point too. The question is: Are there any other MDs around you could take your child to?/Switch your child's primary care physician to? If I were you I'd dump this pediatrician and get another one because as they say " it couldn't be any worse " ....unless you use the same SLP as Kris and you know what she would say: " When someone says " How-do-you-do, " just say that you didn't " from 'Eeyore's Gloomy Little Instruction Book' http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0525455191/ref=si3_rdr_bb_product/104-7055642-7\ 943151?ie=UTF8 =====

Guest guest
Hi , I agree I need to look for a new Pediatrician. I am in the process of asking other mom's near me (an hour away) to see who they go to. I am not aware of any developmental Ped's in my area (or near me)... so, we'll see. As far as the puking/diarreah, that was months ago. (I only brought it up to show how rediculous her Dr. is. My sister uses her for her daughter, and everytime her daughter is sick, she tells her it's allergies... She's awful. I do like her partner, and she helped us out when my daughter had a UTI... so, I may request to use only her from now on...) I agree, she is an awful Dr. And yes, " this is all for real " ... No real reason to make it up, that I can imagine. I did go over the food log. I cannot figure out what it could have been that caused the sickness. I was thinking it might have been Giardia (parasite) as the symptoms were the same. I got it 1st, and days later, my daughter, etc. It kept getting passed back & forth so I used lots of clorox wipes around the house, threw out left-overs... I knew my daughter had digestive issues, so I tried to keep an eye on her. I am not sure what caused it. I gave her probiotics, and kept her well hydrated. Let her eat as she wanted to... She is better now, and like I said, it is still a mystery. The reason I mentioned having her on the GFCF diet, was the fact that I was taking care of her stomach issues, and knew it couldn't be the wheat or milk. That I wanted a test done to see what else she could possibly be allergic to, as the rest of us got better faster than she did. It lasted about 2 weeks with us, and about 5 for her. I figured, since it seemed to be a stomach thing, maybe it was something that she was eating that was aggrivating it. I still do not know. Anyway, yes, I am working on figuring out exactly who I need to switch her to. As I said, I live in a very small community, and they are really lax. The reason I mentioned all of the above in relation to the shots, was that I do not have a supportive Dr out here...and I was confused. Just wanted some advice. A lot of Dr's (and people in general) think a parent is insane for not immunizing. I can see it, to a point. I used to feel this way, too. Until I had my daughter. And since no one will listen to me about her problems, it is very difficult to know the right thing to do. Aubrey
