Guest guest
I just watched the whole thing - we were considering seeing a DAN! doc (Josh is not on spectrum but has apraxia, developmental delays, sensory issues, hypotonia - it was suggested a DAN! doc might be able to help) - thought the tape was great, extremely informative, excellent suggestions. It's about an hour long but well worth it. Sherry Joanne Mulholland <mulholland34@...> wrote: http://www.talkautism.org/video/df/index.asp?id=3# any input on this video from Maureen McDonnell? Guest guest
I tried the protocol for a year. I personally know two children that are " recovered " . But several others, including my son that it really didn't impact. We did a year...spent thousands of dollars, gave him tons of supplements, b-12 shots every 3 days and tons of blood work. The doc said he was 99% sure Nicky's autism was caused by thimerasol. I asked so many teachers, therapists, etc. what they think and they said it's no the vaccines. I personally think there is an environmental trigger. When I stopped my son from the shots, supplements, etc..there was no change, regression, etc. I think the ABA and Speech therapy made the difference. The early intervention since age two. I wish there was a cure. A magic bullet so to speak. I know tons of kids that these treatments did not work for. It's a personal decision. I had to try, for myself, as a last ditch effort to see if it made a difference. Now, i'm trying the med's to help him focus. It takes more than meds, biomed treatments to help our kids. Early intervention is important. Get your child as much therapies as you can, SLP, OT, ABA...I wish I put my money there.... For all of you that have succeeded and are currently trying these tx, good luck and God Bless.
Guest guest
We tried the gluten free casien free diet for a while (which is part of the DAN! protocol)and we did see results but Tommy is such a self limiting eater that we were concerned he wasn't getting enough nutrition. Our occupational therapist, who didn't believe in the diet until she saw it work with Tommy, begged us to put him back on the diet because she wasn't making progress with him of the diet. We also contacted Dr. Cutler's office in Niagara Falls. He is a DAN! doctor and they were participating in a clinical trial having to do with trimethylglycine and vitamin B12 injections but once we gave them our information to contact us back for the study we never heard from them again. If you want an easy read that will begin to introduce you to the DAN! approach try Unraveling the Mysteries of Autism and Pervasive Developmental Disorder by Serousi. It was the very first book I ever read on autism and is also where I got the idea to try the diet. If you try the DAN! protocol keep us posted on how it goes. > > Has anyone's child undergone the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) Protocol > treatment? Guest guest
Thanks everyone for responding regarding the DAN protocol. I'm skeptical of anything outside the mainstream, but it looks promising. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks Rob --- groots94 <Lake260@...> wrote: > > We've been following the DAN Proctocol in one form > or another since > 1997. Guest guest
It is a matter of trial and error. I've read thatsome therapies only work on a specific subtype of autism and through experience I believe this is true. What is td-dmps? > > > > Has anyone's child undergone the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) Protocol > > treatment? Guest guest
We have had our 4 year old on the "Dan diet" for over a year. When we first put him on and he detoxed we saw great improvement in his eye contact, social play, humor, love giving, and sleep habits. These have continued throughout the year plus he has been on the diet. We are thinking about taking him off for awhile to see if it is the diet or just natural growth. He is still non verbal but has made some progressions their (baby steps). I agree with the other writers that it takes early intervention and a variety of things to help. ABA AVB, OT Speech etc. So it is hard to know what is most effective, but we have to try!!! rabisaar <rabisaar@...> wrote: Has anyone's child undergone the DAN (Defeat Autism Now) Protocol treatment? Guest guest
If you are interested in the diet there is a group called GFCF Kids that you could try. You will probably find quite a few people in that group using the DAN! Protocol. It is a large group with over 600 members although I don't know how many are active. The group has been around a long time. I am a member but I don't post or read the board any longer. > > > > > > Has anyone's child undergone the DAN (Defeat > > Autism Now) Protocol > > > treatment? Guest guest
I just wanted to correct my previous post. The GFCF Kids group has over 7,800 members. I got it confused with this group which has over 700 members. > > > > > > Has anyone's child undergone the DAN (Defeat > > Autism Now) Protocol > > > treatment?
