I was told last month that Greggory was going to be dropped from eligibility for

services. I have had very mixed feelings about this. I want for him to be able

to get services if he needs them but he really hasnt needed anything for the

last 3 yrs. We did get respite money which was nice and really we used

Greggory's money to add to Alec's because very few babysitters would want to

take care of Alec for just $8 an hour. Anyway...The papers came today saying

that Greggory is longer meeting criteria for being disabled. What do you all

think? What would you do?

Celebrate Jacquie. It is likely he wont need services anyway. I

understand your concerns too.

Well sort of. Greggory has been divorced from his autism dx and his services.

Divorce is a good way to explain how I feel. It's like the security of

everything we have be doing is gone but maybe there is something better for him

out there and that dx was just holding him back. I dont know.

awww. you know what, i think you should just keep on going like you have and

nevermind those papers. he's obviously doing very well and that's great. that

doesn't mean he's not autistic anymore, it just means that he is able to cope in

this world by himself. as sue said, if he ever needs services again in the

future, you can get them then. you are a great mom and i know that you will keep

up with whatever he needs :)

Thanks. It was so hard to get him to qualify the last time. I just worry. But he

is doing great. I think I will celebrate like everyone suggested. :)

Oh Boy, Jacquie -

That's a tough one.

First, Autism is lifelong and I'm concerned that they are just shutting the

door, so to speak..

What happens as he gets older? Things change....he may need services every

now and again...

I'd hate to see you have to go thru evaluations, testing, etc. for him to

become eligible...

hmmmmmm.

Yes. These are my feelings. Jeff and I both know he will be autistic all of his

life. It really affects the way he sees everything. I worry about when he gets

older. But nothing that I can really do about that now that I wont be able to do

later. I showed the papers to Jeff yesterday. He said, " Screw 'em! "

That's exactly how I'd feel, Jacquie. Good luck and be brave! :-)
