Guest guest
Hi, My husband is turning 50 in a few weeks (and I don't know how that can possibly be since I'm still such a young, vibrant thing--LOL!). I'm throwing a surprise party for him and was wondering if anyone has any great ideas for me? Theme or decoration or silly things to do, etc.? Hubby has a great sense of humor . I've been so busy that I've barely even thought about it other than to send out invites. Now I realize it's only 3 weeks away. Aaaccckkk!!!!!!!!!! Anybody have their creative juices flowing?? I'd love to hear any ideas at all!! Thanks! S. vtmt@... www.mt-resources.com
Guest guest
How about a theme of what life was like the year he was born (1953)? Everybody wear clothing from that era, have an old TV if you can find one or an old radio there, have the same type of foods on old style dishes, etc. Maybe rent a movie or two that was popular that year......stuff along this line. ?????? Guest guest
For my husband's 40th someone gave him a bottle of Viagra. I also put one of those bits in the local paper with a picture of him and his Australian Blue Heeler who he loves more than me. I had them write " Lordy, Lordy Look Who's 40 and Still Fabulous! " He got a kick out of it. Dyan
Guest guest
, My family and friends have had several of these in the past few years, ever since my older sister turned 50. The best cake we had was for my brother's party, which had things on it like a vulture and a tomb stone that said Rest in Peace. We got it at one of the local grocery stores, so I'm sure you can find a store that would do something like that. Usually just tell them it's for a 50th and they will come up with something. Then at my party my friends all wore black, had black balloons and over-the-hill decorations. They gave me some fun gifts, such as a roll of toilet paper with over-the-hill jokes on it. I believe they found most of that stuff at Party City. Anyway, we have always done 50 with black humor and lots of teasing about getting over the hill and near the grave. Guest guest
, Sorry I forgot something. At my brothers party we also found a bunch of things from his childhood and did a little show on his life as a child. My mother has boxes for each of us that include such fun things as baby clothes, letters we wrote home, lots of pictures, even report cards, essays and things. Some of the letters my brother wrote to my mom were hilarious. If you can get any of the things from his childhood to embarrass him with, do it. Guest guest
Margaret, Oh, I just love the idea of everyone wearing all black! What a hoot! I already have the cake ordered, and of course it will be utterly gruesome! LOL! I know some people don't find this type of stuff funny, but my husband does and since this is his day, so be it!!! > , My family and friends have had several of these in the past > few years, ever since my older sister turned 50. Guest guest
, How about a " Survivor " theme party. Your party guests (if they would be willing) can dress up in their " Survivor " gear, then you can split into teams and have challenges. > Hi, > > My husband is turning 50 in a few weeks (and I don't know how that can > possibly be since I'm still such a young, vibrant thing--LOL!). Guest guest
, Great idea! The only problem with it is that is sounds like it would take quite a bit of planning and work on my part beforehand and time is in short supply right now . I do love the idea, though!! Hmmmm.....maybe for MY 50th when hubby has to plan it all...LOL! Of course, that's decades away from now being the young thing that I am.... > , > How about a " Survivor " theme party. Guest guest
Ahhhh, wonderful! I know right where that stuff is kept, so it will be easy to lay my hands on it. His brother is flying all the way up from Florida (we live in Vermont) to surprise him at this party, so he'll especially appreciate this!! > , Sorry I forgot something. Guest guest
For my dad's 50th, I made three posterboard displays of pictures through the years, like when he and my mom got married, him with his dog, my sister's wedding and my college graduation, etc., plus some funny ones of him with smart-aleck comments written underneath. He really liked them, and my mom had them framed to save. They really didn't take that long to make, other than going through the pictures. Guest guest
At a friend's 40th a few years ago, his wife rented a walker from a medical supply store. She put a bicycle horn on it and a review mirrow that stuck out at the side. He got gifts like a huge can of Metamucil, a bag of Depends, a box of Ex-Lax, a box of hair color for men, a bottle of Centrum Silver, and denture cleaner. Another friend brought him a cane she found at a garage sale and attached an orange slow vehicle triangle to it. Instead of singing Happy Birthday so he could blow out his candles, another friend played Taps on his trumpet. They had decorated the living room like a cemetary, black crepe paper streamers, black balloons, etc., and his cake was like the one described earlier...black frosting with a tombstone that said RIP Mark. He had a pretty hilarious sense of humor, so it was time to get back at him. :-) We all had a blast, though. Guest guest
Hi ; I've also seen the cane/walker thing done, and it is very funny. For my ex-father-in-law, when he turned 65, we gave him a bunch of kid toys related to his favorite hobbies, i.e., plastic gardening tools, play golf set with the huge club heads, etc. It was pretty funny also. Plus, what he didn't keep for the grandkids, we gave to the local women's shelter. So that was a nice thing to come out of the goofiness. Also, if you have time, could you ask the invitees to each write out a silly memory or story or whatever that you could assemble into a book for him? Or they could do it the day of the party, and then read them all aloud to him. And one family I know, goes to the dollar store or Big Lots or Goodwill and gets enough small, inexpensive things to equal the birthday number, like 50 things for 50 years. Make them as funny and goofy as you like. Have fun!
