Guest guest
In Mics school they separate the classrooms Your apraxic child would not be in the same classroom as a severely autistic child. They use typical oral motor therapy. They always use rewards or they ignore some behaviors. Some of the aggressive children are restrained but they are held and spoken to very softly compassionately and calmed down. If they cannot calm the child in a few minutes they remove them from the environment and they go to the gymn or the playground. It works. All of these kids are apraxic and I am seeing amazing progress in speech.Mic is beginning to talk and he is dxed severely apraxic.I have had intense therapy from EI and after we aged out Mic stopped until I found this school. And Mics slp from EI used basic ABA methods not intense.Yes its based on Skinner and Lovaas and that works for children, but 90% of these kids do not need intense ABA.So they are modifying ABA and you just have to find the right school. Our school district pays for ABA if it benefits the child. They get $26,000 a year a child in NY. In Mass they get $70,000. Believe me I have done my homework.Pain or abuse of any kind is not used in anyway. Thats what I thought until I did my homework. Please do not pass judgement until you actually see it for yourself. Its going to help alot of children. Laurie
