Guest guest
I think scaring parents away from ABA is detrimental. If you haven't had your child in a program then it's hard to speak about its benefits. Yes there are people who hang a shingle and claim to do ABA floortime VB etc. If you have a PhD supervise then you can have quality programs and see real measurable benefit. Also you don't have to rob a bank. My son gets 10 hours of ABA per week and I pay only $60.00. This is less than my insurance co-pays for speech. What does it do? It helped me see my son's receptive is much better than his expresssive as I suspected. It helped his focus and attention. It is good for oral motor exercises. It works with potty training. Yes there are modifications needed for apraxic kids. My therapist was not giving Dean credit for t-fly his approx for butterfly or purty his approx of purple. I told them to go by Kaufman best approximations and give him credit if it was his best approx. So purple should be popo or purpo. There is no PTSD possibility if parents monitor the professionals working with their kids. Murder maybe but that is why you get references from people you know and trust. Also autism is much more common than apraxia and many of us are laboring under the impression that our kids only have apraxia or apraxia is the primary. NOt always the case and it doesn't matter how many experts you see. I had 2 negative CARS tests for my son but the ADOS and ADI both said autism without a doubt. If you ignore ABA you are missing out on somehting that can help.
