Guest guest
JD was having some problems again breathing. and I did everything we could last night and when I started bagging him, called 911. We knew there was something really wrong. JD got to have his helicopter ride (he may be a future pilot) and we went on to Children's Medical in dallas. No one really what exactly was wrong with JD until they got all of test results back. He got admitted in to his room at 12:15 this morning. david and I stayed to answer medical history questions. We got home around 2am and I got up around 4:30 to get back to the hospital. Olivia stayed with the sitter overnight. The doctor came in this morning and said that JD was doing some backward breathing and might need to be back on the vent for night time. ENT was going to come by and check the trach and see if he needed a longer one. 15 minutes later the results came back. JD has RSV, he got this from Olivia and Olivia got it from church somehow. I ask....What more can we handle right now? Any clues.....Anyone!! More later when we know anything else. & , parents to twins: Olivia and JD(cHArgE: Choanal Atresia, Heart Repair, TE-F Repair, G-Tube, Trach , Hernia Repair , severe to profound hearing loss, OFF the VENT ) 15 months , Waxahachie, Texas ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. Guest guest
i dont' remember what the acronym stands for (respritory ___ virus?) but it's a really nasty virus that is especially hard on children under the age of 2 - of course it is very highly contagious and even worse on premies and obviously on children that are already medically complcated (which JD is both and Olivia is a premie but i'm not recalling if she has other major complications).. maybe someone else knows what it actually stands for - i'll tell you one thing JD having RSV means he definitely needs all the prayers ANYone can spare - poor lil guy - i'm sure glad i know that he is safe in the arms of God and under the care of good doctors (and parents who know when to dial 911 (literally and in prayer)) Cole p.s. there are many ppl on the list that can explain it better than that - but i tried > > My thoughts and prays are with you. could you pls let me know what is > RSV? > My brain isn't at it's best latly. lol. Guest guest
I think part of the reason that the injections are so expensive is that unlike the flu shot, the vaccine is produced in limited quantities because a small portion of the population gets it. Also, since a brand name is involved ( " Synagis " ) I'm guessing one company has a patent out so they are the only ones making it and can charge whatever they want. $10,000 for injections seems like a lot, but I calculated it out and a day in the PICU at Children's in Seattle is around $3,000. So if it enables a kiddo to stay out of the hospital, it's worth it. Is 's insurance covering the injections? Our insurance counted it as a preventative service, just like other vaccinations--they covered it at 100%. And since he has been in the hospital so much, does OR have a medical coupon he would qualify for? The medical coupon would cover the injections too. I dont understand why are they so outrageously expensive! Guest guest
Hi Yes, I think that is how they look at it. They are actually saving you money 's insurance does not pay much of anything. I wish Racheal would look into other resources available. At this point the expenses are so overwhelming that they are just letting them pile up and not even looking at them. What is the " coupon " . and I also heard something here about " waiver " . I will need to look into this for her. Thank you much, Liz -- Re: JD back in the hospital Hi & Amelie had RSV positive Bronchiolitis last Nov 05, under 2 years of age in the UK are given Synergis injections monthly, from October to March and Amelie has been great up to now...dare I say it!!
