Guest guest
If it was someone I knew, the first thing I'd tell them is I'm here anytime they need me. For anyone in general, I'd tell them to learn as much as they can about it, and to request anything dealing with services from the schools in writing and by cerified mail! The first thing I tell new parents that call me is that I'm very sorry this happened to their family. Then I tell them that their child is still their little miracle. Then I get their phone number and put them on the call once a week list until I hook them up with a buddy. Hugs

Guest guest
Oh my God, your life will never be the same again! And while that's true enough, it doesn't seem terribly helpful, does it? Guest guest
Write the one thing you'd tell someone who just found out their child is autistic. There are so many new members with fresh diagnoses, I think this age-old assignment deserves another go-round. It helps those of with older kids remember where we've been, and helps those with newly dx'd kids feel a lot less alone. Ready, set.........go! Guest guest
Find a support place where you can vent, brag, whatever. Remember, parents of NT kids do this also. Janae , 10, ADD Jake, 7, autism
