Bonus points to anyone who gets that reference. ;)

has not pooped since Wednesday, and that was small. He also went

very early on Tuesday, and that was also small. Normally he goes daily.

How long do I wait?

Before I give him something. I had some for Gabe as an infant but it has

expired. Matt was going to stop and buy popcorn on his way home so I could

have him pick some up tonight.

Using a stool softener or laxative every once in awhile is ok, just

as long as it doesn't become a constant thing. Bowels can become

accustomed to laxatives to the point of addiction. You said he

NORMALLY goes daily, then I would consider him constipated. Feel his

tummy if it feels hard then definately go with a laxative. Glycerine

suppositories help very young children and can even be cut smaller if

need be. Increase his water too. Just keep in mind, some people can

go days without a poop and it's normal for them (I'd be in hell).

He went!

Whew.

We did not quite make it to the bathroom but we went through the

motions...maybe he will get the idea...I am NOT pushing him to be bowel

trained, I just want him not to feel he has to hold them. I think if he

knows what to do he may be able to do it...I hope that makes sense. I just

don't know what the issue is for him -- if he does not want to soil himself

or if it is a bodily awareness issue that makes it frightening/uncomfortable

to go or what is going on. (He decided last Sunday to pee in the toilet and

has only had 2 accidents since then - this was TOTALLY self-initiated.)

I have been encouraging water and high-fiber foods - thus the popcorn I

mentioned earlier - normally he does not eat grains because they give him

diahrrea. Popcorn is a favorite food.

I really don't know if I'm approaching this correctly, so if you have better

ideas about what I should be doing please don't hesitate to share!

You won't need to wait long Sara...I wouldn't worry too much about it..

Jacqui hasn't gone for days either (of course, I'm kind of happy about

this).

No doubt I will pay for that happiness.....

YES!

's been painfully constipated only once. He would NOT accept anything

by mouth -- no ex lax, or drink, or anything -- but he did not fight the

suppository! Nor did he seem bothered by having a little glycerine bullet

melting in his butt, either!

Bizarre. but it worked!
