Guest guest
Hello all! My name is and my 3 year old son, - was diagnosed with PDD last July. Until he was about 26 months, he spoke in two word phrases, had begun potty-training, and had an excellent attention span. He could sing along to Spanish Soap Operas, and dance to both English & Latin music. In around February 2002, I noticed his speech had lessened, and he was " ignoring " me. He wasn't dancing as often, and lost interest in potty training, doing his business all over the carpet. We reside in Orange County, NY, which does not have a huge selection of pediatric neurologists enlisted in our HMO. After medical & hearing evaluations, we finally were able to get him to a neurologist 50 miles away [after waiting two months for an appt], who diagnosed him with mild autism/PDD. My son has a 9 yr old half-brother [from his father's side] with moderate autism. DJ had ABA for about 4 months, which helped him very much, speech therapy for 2 months, which made no strides, and occupational therapy for 1 month which helped with his sensory intergration issues. Today, DJ attends Inspire preschool and is doing well socially and behaviorally, but his speech has dwindled to a handful of words. There is no more spinning, hand-licking, head- banging, arm-flapping, or hyper-jumping. He is very affectionate and does not cringe from strangers. He has no obsessions or compulsions. His eye contact has always been amazingly good, and he loves to interact with other children. His main thing now is speech and learning. I would recommend ABA to anyone, and OT really compliments this therapy. My focus now is finding a reliable experienced sitter for the times I need " Adult outings. " My son is a beautiful child, well-behaved, and predictable. He knows his routines, and is good at anticipating next steps. I'm so proud of him. Guest guest
Welcome , you have the same name my daughter has (only that we put an additional s, just for the fun of it so she is Dessirée). She is 3.8 yo we are doing floortime with her and she is doing great. She know talks a lot (when she was two she did not talk at all), she is very warm and love me very much, but specially adores her Daddy, who she declared was her boyfriend on valentine's day. This is a great group. I love to be here. Guest guest
Welcome, You will enjoy this group so much. My name is , I'm also in Orange County NY. I'm in Otisville to be exact. My son is 4 dx with Autism this past September, we knew for awhile before it was official. I have 3 other children. is 8 and homeschooled, we are going through CSE testing now. is 2 and just finished his preschool testing today. We know for sure he'll get speech and OT, but not how much or if he'll go full or part time. I think full. is attending Center, PLE and that is where will go. Inspire is too far and had no opening when I asked yesterday. I also have a beautiful baby Girl named Adeline, she is almost 5 months old already. We also have another list member, that is in Orange County. I'm sure she's already answered. I haven't had the time to read all my mail yet.. (It's more then hectic here) I hear you about the doctors here. We ended up with a developmental ped in Albany NY. is now seeing doctors out of Westchester for Kawasaki's syndrome. I need a new Ped, always asking who everyone is using. I hate mine. Anyway welcome to this great list Hi from Lee family in NY-New to Group Hello all! Guest guest
Hi ! Welcome! It sounds like your son is doing rather well except for the speech. How does he currently communicate with you? Do you use sign language, PECS or something else? I can't offer you any babysitting help unless you want to drive across a couple of states! Guest guest
Welcome, (beautiful name ...) I'm glad you found us. It sounds like you've done well getting a dx and services for your son. These days I feel like that is more than half the battle. Good luck finding a babysitter (if you find one, you will have to let the rest of us know how you did it!) (n 31 mo, ASD?/hyperlexic?) Seeing your child regress must be SO hard. My son never did; he just did not develop normally. Hate all that waiting especially when everyone tells you that early intervention is the most important thing while they are making you wait six months for an appointment. Boo, hiss. Well, it sounds as if you probably can find a sitter. No one wanted to babysit Putter. He was a beautiful child but incredibly badly behaved and unpredictable. He knows his > routines, and is good at anticipating next steps. I'm so proud of him. > Sounds as if he is doing great. Just need to get that speech back.
