Guest guest
A coworker of mine who is an athlete said that it is better to do cardio in small segments. 10 min treadmill followed by 10 min bike followed by 10 min elliptical rather than 30 min of just one. That kind of flies in the face of everything I've heard before about a sustained workout being the best. I was hoping someone on the list might have some knowledge or insight to share about this. TIA for the 411. -- Ivy Check out my website at http://www.kehinde.com.
Guest guest
I think the point he's trying to make is that mixing it up moves different muscles in different ways...however I am a voracious reader of sports/athletic related books and magazines and I've never read a suggestion to do such short increments. However cross training is an excellent way to work out. Instead of changing every 10 minutes, which would mean your HR would go down and you'd get LESS cardio benefit than sustained, try changing every day. Do 30 minutes of elliptical one day, weights the next day, bike the next, etc. Or do one thing in the morning and another in the afternoon. My workout is different all the time. I run every day and I also always do either swimming or cardio combo (step aerobics, core, and weight lifting). Some days I add weights and am trying to remember to do abs every day. Now that it's spring I'm back on my bike too! _____ From: Ivy Reisner Sent: Thursday, March 10, 2005 2:00 PM To: Serious-Weight-Watchers Subject: cardio fitness routine A coworker of mine who is an athlete said that it is better to do cardio in small segments. 10 min treadmill followed by 10 min bike followed by 10 min elliptical rather than 30 min of just one.
