Guest guest
Hi guys! First I'd like to say that I am inspired by a lot of your posts. Those of you who have lost 50+ pounds are especially inspiring as I have 50+ to lose in order to reach my short term goal. I've been following WW points religiously and recently added a 1 hr. treadmill workout per day and 30 min. of weight lifting to speed up my metabolism, because after an initial weight loss of 14 lbs., I'm seeing the scale go up instead of down. Quite discouraging I must say. But, I'm no stranger to weight lifting and weight loss so I KNOW that eventually the scale will resume it's downward path. I just wish it would hurry up! My clothes are fitting much better even though my weekly weigh-ins do not reflect a weight loss. Posting where there are others who understand what I go through is motivating for me, so thanks for listening! If you have any suggestions for me on how to break through a plateau I'd be grateful. Guest guest
Tina, I can relate. I did five hours on the treadmill and gained two pounds right away. Two days later it went back to what it was. This has happened twice. I am preparing to walk a marathon. I keep hoping to start losing again but it is up and down the same two pounds the last couple of weeks. Guest guest
Kathy I've gained five pounds since starting my marathon training (well five has been my highest, I was down a bit last week). Everyone who has done a marathon that I've talked to has said they too gained during that time. I even read it in my Jeff Galloway book. It's very common because of all the extra exercise. Your muscles are retaining more water, your blood volume increases, and your muscle mass increases. At least that's my story! I haven't changed the way I eat except eating more points on long run tays, although honestly it really isn't any more calories than it used to be so I guess I haven't really changed it. The only thing that's changed is that I'm exercising more. _____ From: K. A. Nash, Ed.D.
