Car shopping SO stinks...

We are at the point where we truly must replace my car...so, to cut

down on the stress for (and me!), Mark has been doing all

kinds of research, going to dealerships, getting online and in person

quotes, and for the last two days, coming home to get us to go test

drive minivans. Yesterday's version (a Mazda) was just too small.

Today, he wants to try a Toyota...so the plan is for him to bring the

van to our house at 5 so we can take Elaine to ballet in it, then

return to the house, trade cars, and pick her up.

<cough>

Here's how it went down. I messed up on the time, and had

ready half an hour early. Stupid, but done before I realized it. So

there he stands at the door fussing....bringing me his and my coats,

my keys, and so on...till I finally tell the other kids that we will

just get in the car and drive around the block until Dad gets there.

We did that for a bit, but it is truly boring driving in circles, and

I was afraid I might miss Mark when we were on the wrong side of the

block, so we came back home and tried waiting in the car in the

driveway. did not like that...so in the house we go.

In the meantime, Mark has called, and the guy from the car place is

coming with him. Yuck. , inside the house again and fully

aware that dispite the fact that he has been someplace he has

actually been nowhere...is again fussing to go out. So I figure we

will go out to the car, slowly, hoping they will show...which, of

course they don't, until we have given up standing in the cold and

headed back to sit in my car.

We head toward the van, and I am amazed (and somewhat relieved) to

see that even though he LOVES minivans, does NOT want to get

into this strange one that has pulled up by us and opened it's door,

exposing a stranger. We convince him it's okay, and in we all go.

After dropping off Elaine, we go back to the dealership, transfer

into Mark's car, and head home.

has now been in three cars in less than 30 minutes, so I tell

Mark I am going to take his car to pick up Elaine rather than

switching him again...he will have to drive mine to his class.

When we get home, I check , and upon seeing that he is wet,

take off his shoes, knowing that he will strip, but thinking he can

go without for a few minutes since he has recently emptied his

bladder...and I go into the bathroom.

Stupid again. I hear yelling, chaos, and general panic. I come out

to find that said bladder was NOT empty...but now is. has

peed on Elaine's french fries and pie...on 's biology binder,

which included the test sent home today...on a pile of clean but

unsorted socks...and on our big dictionary.

So now, I have a hungry and none too happy teenage girl, a dictionary

with curly but hopefully sorta clean pages, a ruined biology

test...and a fully dressed . has somehow escaped

unscathed.

I have to help find Elaine something else to eat, convince her that

is NOT evil, and call 's biology teacher and tell

her....what, exactly?

I'm tired.

Your car fiasco sounds just like my Zach is! Lol Tell the teacher

exactly why the test is ruined. I'm sure she'll be more than happy

to replace it! (Got a big laugh out of that)

So did you buy anything?

That's what I did...and she was very sweet. Even told me that

didn't have to worry about recopying his labs as she has

already seen them, so that will help him a lot. :-)

> So did you buy anything? >

Nah...we're still trying to balance out what we can afford (not much)

with what we need (more than not much)...and working on how to get

situated so that he can't open a window/door along the way,

pull hair, steal food, or kick anyone...

We are leaning toward what we drove today---a " Sailfin blue " Toyota

Sienna...basic--the fewer buttons and gadgets for folks to ruin, the

better (and cheaper...). But we wanna catch this $2000 rebate they

have till the end of March, so we pretty much have to really look now.

Oh dear. What an afternoon you have had. Since there is much room

to improve tomorrow should be better hopefully!

And I echo the car shopping sentiments. I hate car shopping, but am

glad your hubby has been able to do so much of it. That is how we

got our new van (to us) van this last year. found it, drove it,

ganged up with my father, they brought it home, made me drive it

back, and then they signed all the papers, so now I am driving a big

dodge van. Good luck!

That is what we really need...a big dodge van...unfortunately, we

can't afford one. :-( So we are looking at *little* vans...and

putting all the kids into it so we can see if everyone fits.

I think Mark is going to make a bid on the van we drove last night.

We just decided to offer them what we can afford, and if that isn't

enough, they can keep it--we'll find another one before the Taurus

falls apart.

It's a used one, like a church van sort..but it was owned by a big

family...we bought it from a dealer for $5000. There was no way we

could afford to look at something that was 10K or more.

<<<<<<<

Make sure the doors have " child-locks " ...That prohibits the child from

opening the door from the inside, even if the door locks are unengaged.

Make sure the driver's side has a " window-lock " , which will lock all of the

windows.

As for pulling hair, stealing food, and kicking...well, you're on your own

with that one. :-D
