Guest guest
Hey Eileen - Not sure if this will help - I am here in TN and both my boys are on Medicaid (they are adopted). MY six year old has had his diapers provided since he was three as I got a script from the doc saying that he is not able to potty train, for what ever reason they put. He is getting Curity Sleep Pants provided every month. I also purchase Tranquility ATN Youth (which have a " cloth like " outside but no elastic/give) I use these when we will be in the car for some time and I am not able to change his diaper as often as I like to. I have also stuck some Depends like pads into his diaper too to help with leak control. Guest guest
Have you considered cloth? My older son leaked through every diaper out there. I finally at a friend's suggestion tried Fuzzi Bunz and it worked! www.juliestuff.com is the cheapest place I've found fuzzi bunz. I " know " this woman from a email list several years ago, but I still shopped around and her prices are the best. I stuffed two toddler sized prefolds into the pocket and it made for a really bulky diaper, but it pulled the wetness away from the skin and held everything all night long! The largest size diaper is for 35+ lbs. My son was fitting in it when he wore size 6's. It might be worth a try. Washing cloth is super easy, especially if you are just using it at night when it's urine and not BMs. As for potty training I don't have any advice. Both my children just trained when they were ready and did it practically overnight. I wish I could take credit for doing something! Guest guest
Hi! I don't know if this would be of any help to you, but I have had a lot of success with it myself. I spoke to my son's pediatrician about potty training (mainly night time problems) and she recommended the Potty Pager. It vibrates when they start to leak. It either helps them to learn to wake up to go or to hold it until the morning (which is the case for my son). We have been dry at night for over a year. The pediatrician emphasized how some children sleep to heavily at night and simply need some help to train their brains. My son would not wake up at night and would just sleep in the wetness. I don't see why you couldn't use it during the day as well. Sherry N. ('s mom) has Dyspraxia - has been through speech, occupational therapy, and vision therapy. He also has ADHD. He was always a big guy and in size 6 around 2 1/2, but his body changed and they fit until we switched to training pants. He is finally potty trained for about 3 months. The only diapers fit well for him were the better Pampers. Hopefully that will work for your son as well, thought there are larger sizes for training pants, and even Good Nites for school-aged kids who have accidents at night. HTH, Corinna [ ] Diapers? Guest guest
hello, well my son is 3 and partially potty trained. We buy the night time trainers because they go ot by size but weight and go as high as 120lbs, for older kids that still wet the bed. My friend told me to try this. put on some cute undies with characters he likes and then take him to the potty every 1/2 hour. and about 20 minutes after he eats keep asking if he has to potty. my son still may potty on himself at times but now he tells us after because the feel is terrible in ther underwear. You may go thru a few pair of undies but it may be worth the effort. Next I read that it is genetic. My husband did not speak at all until he was 4. Then with the help of family and a speech therapist he did speak. back then they did not know what to call it. Now we do and started our son early after he loss some of the developing speech and began to babble. Hope this helps. gn , " Eileen " <eileenwolter@...> wrote: > > They are getting so expensive, an almost 3 year old son, who is in > 6's....what happens when he grows out of them? Guest guest
Eileen, Some park districts offer Potty Boot camps or Potty training camp this month only ie just before fall classes starts. Why can't you try that. Just my 2 cents. Rama Eileen <eileenwolter@...> wrote: They are getting so expensive, an almost 3 year old son, who is in 6's....what happens when he grows out of them? Guest guest
" Is Apraxia genetic? " Good question! The answer is ... sometimes. In some families, there is a history of apraxia and/or very delayed or disordered speech development and/or other neurological conditions, so, it would make sense that in those families, it is genetic. <http://geo./serv?s=97359714 & grpId=426705 & grpspId=1600126171 & msgId=5070\ 4 & stime=1156257629 & nc1=3848660 & nc2=3848500 & nc3=3848582> But, in this generation, there is a huge increase in apraxia in families where there is NO such history (like in my family). This leads us to believe that, in those cases, there are other things going on. Many of us suspect environmental assaults. has talked about this at length. There is an outcry from parents of kids afflicted with ASD to find out the cause of the increased incidence of ASD. I believe that the answer to why apraxia is on the rise will be related to the reasons behind the rise in ASD as well. I believe that the reasons are interrelated. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
Eileen, It seems that our apraxic kids have an even harder time potty training than their typical peers, and so they train a little later than normal. But even " typical " kids are going longer and longer in diapers these days - 3 year olds in diapers are not that our of the ordinary anymore. My apraxic daughter trained at about 3.5, very shortly after going GFCF. Once she went GFCF and decided she didn't want to wear diapers anymore, it only took 3 days to get really good at keeping her undies dry. My 26-month-old " typical " daughter shows much more interest in training, and seems to have better coordination for it too. I understand that having 2 in diapers is a pain (I did it for almost 2 years), but trying to push a child who's not ready is going to be a big pain too. Guest guest
Hi-Eileen, Hi have been working on potty training my 3years old son these last couple of months but know since preschool will start next week I have been working harder with him . He seems to like the reward basket I have put under the sink every time he goes he gets to pick award:m & m's,sucker, stickers, cars and it has helped alot so just this week he has caught on and has'nt had any acciendts in his big boy undies during the day but at night I still put pull ups on him and he keeps leaking through them too so I 'am going to try putting plastic underwear over them to see if that will help absorb the pee .I remember getting them for my other son old when he was pottytraining . I got them at walmarts so you may want to try them I know this potty training is hard when they are not ready so maybe also he just is'nt ready too. Guest guest
I am happy to say I 2nd that...we've been using cloth diapers- Fuzzibunz and other brands for over a year and love them. And yes they are so easy to care for! As far as potty learning we aren't there yet but my son is just a new 3 yr old. Also our local regional center has started to pay for disposable diapers made by curity. I plan to use them when he goes to preschool. My son is tiny barely in a sz 4 diaper. Another mom I know said her son used depends for a brief time as well as pull ups too. good luck.
Another mom I know said her son used depends for a brief time as well as pull ups too. good luck.
