Just another one of those pet peeves of mine, ever since I figured out that docs

were doing it wrong, and my current doctor just reminded me of this. Doctors

always dictate the Zosyn dosage as something like 3.375 grams, saying it as 3

point 375 grams. For all of you newbies out there, thought I would point out

that Zosyn is actually two different drugs (piperacillin and tazobactam) and the

actual dose is 3/0.375 grams, being 3 grams of piperacillin and 0.375 grams of

tazobactam. I sure wish that these doctors would figure this one out, would

save me from looking it up to make sure I'm right every time. Margaret

Margaret and the whole Group,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us these wonderful little

tidbits. Just since joining the group last week, I have picked up so

many tips and clues to hang onto once I get started. My notebook is

getting pretty full already.

Since I am new, having recently graduated an MT Cert course, I was

wondering if I can get some feedback from the group regarding

reference materials. I have the Abbrev. book, 2 med dictionaries,

Anatomy book, PDR, Drake Drug book, etc. I am wondering about other

types of books such as Path/Lab books, Surgical Instrument books,

Family Practice/General practice book. I do not have a job yet, but

want to be prepared with the most important reference materials that

YOU FEEL YOU COULD NOT DO WITHOUT.

Thanks for any input and feedback.

Recent grad, looking for job.

The ones I use the absolute most are my Stedmans Abbreviations, my Surg/GI

book, and my Orthopedics book.

It's a start. Is there a specific Surg/GI book & Orthopedic book, and

where is the " hot ticket " for the best deals on books?

Thanks again.

, I am hoping that someone will jump in here with a good lab reference

for you. I have been at this for many years and just use Stedman's Path/Lab

words book, but I have heard others mention specific references that give a lot

more information for lab books, which I wish I would have known about years ago.

I use mostly Stedman's word books. They have a great Equipment words book,

which I wouldn't do without no matter what specialty. They have also recently

updated the Ortho words book. Stedman's also has another book that I just love

called Organisms and Infectious Diseases. One of the things I love about this

book is that you can look up the bacteria even if all you know is the species.

Say the doc says E. coli and you just can't remember what the E stands for.

With this book, you can look up coli and find Escherichia coli.

When looking for books, I always go to the publishers web sites, in this case

Stedman's, because many times you can find specials there. With Stedman's you

have to actually register at their website, which is free, and then they will

show you the current specials.

Hope that's the kind of information you're looking for. Margaret
