Yes, it was wonderful. We've been celebrating for over a week: kid party

at home last week, family party over the holiday weekend, real birthday at

school and home yesterday. She was so cute. First comment at breakfast

yesterday, " And so I am 9 years old! " This morning it was, " I was 8 last

year, I think. " I had her gift from us wrapped yesterday am but she

couldn't open it til evening at cake time. She looked and said, " You know,

it's hard to tell what it is when you have it all wrapped like that! "

Those of you who have been on the list for a long time may appreciate this.

Remember when Flo and Simon's home was broken into and we discovered that

messy home can be a planned security measure?? Our house is always out of

control. Finally, a few weeks ago, I broke down and hired a cleaning lady.

What a fabulous luxury! So we had Aubrie's first birthday party at our

house - because it was clean enough to do so!

Sounds like Aubrie had a great birthday week, Michele! Thanks for sharing some

of her comments--those were great.

And good for you for hiring a cleaning lady! I've been toying with that idea,

too. It's hard to justify the expense with all the other bills, but if it gives

provides some stress relief with everything else we have going on in our lives,

then it would definitely be worth it. A clean house was something I always

prided myself in pre-, but who has time for that now? It would feel good

to live in clean chaos! :-)

" clean chaos! :-) "

That is perfect!! Yes, we still have all the chaos and clutter - but now

it's clean!! I find myself doing more little cleaning tasks now because I

know it's worth it. It used to feel so futile because no matter what I did

you could never notice the difference. Now I know that the basics will

surely be done so I can do some of the extra stuff. Instead of spending all

my time on re-cleaning all the general stuff, I can spend time organizing

cabinets or something. Not that I really do any of it, but it's a good

theory. What I've noticed is that I have time to have the birthday party

here because I didn't have to find a day to clean before. We made our own

thank-you cards and had a clear table to do it on. We're getting right to

decorating the tree without having to spend a day cleaning the house first.

It's making a big difference and she's only been here twice so far. I'm

really cheap so I thought it would be miserably hard to hand over the money

- but turns out that it's easy! And she's a friend - mom to one of 's

best friends - so I feel entirely comfortable with her in my home. They're

in a tight financial situation now so it feels good to be helping them in a

small way. And I can comfortably work beside her so we twice as much done

and have fun at the same time.

Lord, wouldn't it be nice to have a clean and fairly straight house. I'm so

sick of making apologies. When E. was home for Thanksgiving, she

finally stormed about the fur (animals) and dust. Now, that's serious! I

still stand by my earlier warnings, but my mind is now wondering about

the Amish ladies not far from us who clean, etc. I think I'll check. Martha

Wow, this list is valuable for all sorts of things.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I've shared them with Aubrie and she

felt very special! Of course, she always feels special... which I hope

doesn't become a problem someday ;-) She's had a great birthday week. They

had a regular party with gifts and stuff at school! They don't do that at

the public school. Between the kid party, the extended family party, the

school party, stuff in the mail from out-of-town relatives, and home, she

had lots of celebrating!

Yesterday, she said, " My second day of being 9. I guess you're going to

have to get used to it. You don't want me to grow up, but I will. " I

always tell her I want her to be my cuddlebug forever. I guess she's not

buying that! Darn! We decided next year she'll be in the double digits and

will be driving so I will really have to face that my kids are not

little anymore. :-) I, of course, remain as young and spry as ever

though!
