Shall we have a contest to choose a design? Who's going to build

it...DeLorean? How many directions should it go in? I think sideways would be

a

refreshing change. Should it have fins? How about a running board? I was

thinking

lime green would be a good color, with great big butterflies on each side, in

honor of the shape of the Thing We No Longer Have. I'm not referring to our

brains, since we only lose the use of those temporarily. Oh, the headlights

would have to be enormous. I'm not sure why, I just think it would look neat.

And a big old-fashioned klaxon-style horn. And maybe it should be a

convertible. With air conditioning and a radio/CD/cassette deck.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Oh, here are some interesting dates: On August 8, 2001 I was diagnosed

pre-operatively with thyroid cancer. Bright and early on the morning of

September

11, 2001 I had a partial thyroidectomy. On October 16, the birthday of one of

my best friends, I had a completion. On August 8, 2003 I was cleared to go

back to work after a negative scan (I love the way they use a pessimistic term

in an optimistic sense!) on the 4th. My mother died of inflammatory breast

cancer in 1972, at 49; I was diagnosed at 50. Today, August 10, would have been

her 80th birthday. With her cancer, she didn't have a fighting chance. With

mine, I had better than that, and a large group of doctors, nurses, friends,

relatives, neighbors, colleagues at the Free Library of Philadelphia, and

patrons helping me. We fought and won, and as long as I keep doing what I've

been

doing, with the high-caliber care I've been getting, I should continue to get

the same good results. I think my mother would have been proud.

It needs to have horrible hair on top, sticking out in all

directions, and falling out all over the road, with puffy " cheeks "

(fenders), somewhere near the driver's seat area. Even though it has

a neon " glow " , it's paint seems to be dry and peeling. It needs to be

fat and slow, and wander all over the road in an aimless manner.

It should stop every so often to figure out where it's going, so a

GPS would be a good thing to get it back on track and then it can

creep along, stopping frequently to rest. The thycamobile could have

those night vision things that help it see at night, and a

prescription windshield for the daytime.

Its headlights should have a blank stare.

It should have a large supply of tissues for the emotional part of

the trip, like a particularly touching billboard.

NO AIR CONDITIONING! And blankets in the back for those sudden

chills. In fact, it should have a big tub full of warm water for

soaking.

There should be a full array of LID snacks; carrots, celery, carrots,

celery, carrots, celery, and oh, meat and a skinless potato.

The thycamobile will certainly be a LowRider. With attitude. Hmmmph!
