Guest guest
Hi all, I just had my 6 month checkup with my neph. Everything was pretty much in line with my last labs. My hematuria was 10-20 RBCs/HPF and no proteinuria on the dipstick test. My creatinine did inch up from 1.1 to 1.2 which I know is still not that bad. However, I was put on 20mg of Lisinopril since the last time I had labwork done and I've started working out with weights again in the last few weeks. It didn't cross my mind to ask if either the Lisinopril and/or the weightlifting could cause an increase. I thought I remember reading somewhere (maybe on this board) that an ACE Inhibitor can artificially raise your creatinine a bit. Is this true? Also, my albumin/creatine ratio (I think that's what it was) was a bit high (32.4 where < 20 is normal). That was the first time this area was flagged on the report. Is this of much significance? thanks! Jack
Guest guest
Yes, when you start on or increase the dose of an ACE inhibitor, it's almost expected that serum creatinine will go up a bit. If it goes up a lot, the drug may have to be discontinued, but moderate increases are not significant, since it's not a real decline in kidney function, just a reflection that the drug is working (less blood pressure through the glomeruli, less apparent kidney function). This is NOT the same as when a drug actually causes acute renal failure. Pierre ACEI Raising Creatinine and Other ?s > Hi all, > > I just had my 6 month checkup with my neph. Guest guest
Hi Jack, The fact that your creatinine went from 1.1 to 1.2 is probably not significant and in fact is in the normal range for a male. That coupled with the fact that you have no protein are both great indicators. The Lisinopril could have caused that slight increase, and it could also be that you were a bit more dehydrated with this blood draw. Overall, it looks like good news.
