Hello, we are new to the site and we are so glad for all the

information that we have found. I have a question. My husband is

having very bad pain in the joints of his fingers, ankles and even more

so, in his knees. In the evening his ankles swell and his veins seem to

pop out all over his body. Is this related to PSC and if so what

does it mean?

We are told that this is not PSC related by doctors but they haven't

given a reason why it is occuring in our daughter since PSC discovered.

I think they just don't really know enough about this disease and all

its ramifications.

Hello and Jerry,

I have had psc and uc since childhood and also had lots of joint

pain! Psc and uc are auto-immune diseases and go hand in hand with

one another and any other auto-immune disease. So arthritis is

definitley one of them. My sister also has uc and suffered from

iritis (inflammation of the eyes). It may not be the psc that is

causing the joint pain but more likely the immune system itself that

is irritated and overactive and wants the rest of the body to know!

So the joints at the moment are the target.

just my 2 cents,

All I can share is our experience. My 9-year-old (soon to be 10

<weep>) son's knees and ankles began hurting over a year ago. He was

diagnosed with enthesitis by a rheumatologist and put on Celebrex...

it improved. They pulled him off the Celebrex after a bit because of

some memory problems thinking that might be causing them... and that

was a no go... no change in the memory stuff... but the pain did not

return.

Now here recently the pain returned in his knees, ankles, and little

toes... not the big... and the smaller finger joints. Swelling was

there this time too... like sausages. (ew!) He was diagnosed with

psoriatic arthritis. He has always had eczema... but never what I

would term psoriasis. But they think he just has not flared yet, or

that we have just not seen it as it is in his hair. We are treating

it successfully with the Celebrex again. If needed there are other

things to try... but for now it is under good control. I feel for

you all... the pain for Noah was unbearable. He could hardly make it

up the stairs at times. Thankfully he is doing well with the warmer

weather and the Celebrex.

I do think the autoimmune stuff all hangs out together whether it is

officially linked to PSC or not.

Look more for autoimmune disease relationships...in my opinion.

Unfortunately, that umbrella is a big one... but Noah seems better

when he is on his immune suppressant too... which they had yanked him

off of prior to this happening. He is back on that now too.
