Guest guest Posted September 21, 2007 Report Share Posted September 21, 2007 FIREFIGHTER/EMT-INTERMEDIATE/PARAMEDIC Salary - $2,860 per month during sixteen-week Fire Academy/Orientation Salary - $3,587 (FY 2007) per month following sixteen-week Fire Academy/Orientation The City of Arlington, Texas, is hiring Firefighters/EMT- Intermediates as well as EMT-Intermediates and Paramedics who want to become certified firefighters. A sixteen-week Fire Academy/Orientation will begin on February 11, 2008. Following successful completion of the sixteen-week Fire Academy/Orientation, recruits will be assigned to Fire/Rescue where they will respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls, perform fire suppression functions, administer emergency medical services, conduct inspections, present public fire and life safety programs, and participate in and conduct training. Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent Nineteen years of age by December 17, 2007 EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services Valid Texas Class C Driver's License (Proof of minimum requirements must be submitted on or before December 17, 2007.) Written test will be given in Arlington and San . Reasonable accommodation requests for disabilities during testing must be made in advance. The application period will be from September 5 – October 8, 2007. Study guides and written test information will be mailed to applicants who meet the minimum requirements and turn in complete applications to the Workforce Services Department. Additional Requirements: Communicate effectively orally and in writing Perform advanced life support emergency medical functions Work under unpredictable hazardous conditions such as suppressing a fire or responding to an emergency medical call Work in an outdoor environment subject to extremes of temperature, inclement weather, and intermittent exposure to dust, fumes, and loud noise Work above ground on roofs and ladders in excess of 100' in height, below grade in trenches and basements, and in confined spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, in or under vehicles, etc. Lift 150 pounds weight and drag for 75 feet to simulate a rescue Maintain a 24-hour on, 48-hour off work schedule Maintain physical activity over prolonged periods, such as standing attacking a fire and kneeling and stooping in awkward positions Maintain composure in highly stressful situations Pass psychological, drug and alcohol tests, and a pre-placement physical with a rating of good or above Bilingual skills desired, but not required Must obtain or possess a valid Texas Class B Driver's License prior to hire date Must have no family member working for the Arlington Fire Department (City of Arlington Personnel Manual) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
