Minimum Requirements:

• Certified Paramedic by Texas Department of Health Services

• Must be able to obtain Basic Fire Fighter Certification

within one year (Training and certification Paid For By The City)

• 18 – 36 Years of Age at Time of Employment

• Class B Texas Drivers License at Time of Employment

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform basic duties as a firefighter and paramedic including pre-

hospital emergency medical services, extinguishing fires,

maintaining quarters, equipment and vehicles, and other duties as

assigned. The following is not a detailed listing of duties and

responsibilities. A detailed position description is available upon

request.

• Provide Basic and advanced life support to the ill and

critically injured

• Perform vehicle inspection and minor maintenance to equipment

• Public education and public relations

• Maintain accurate records of supply room inventory and

vehicle stock.

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending

educational classes and refreshers, as well as online continuing

education classes

• Control and suppression of fires and other related

emergencies (upon certification by State Commission on Fire

Protection)

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to read and interpret documents; ability to write

reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units

of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals;

ability to compute rates, ratios, etc.

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety

of variables

Is this about the norm for all FD's? Benefits and salary are basically the

same as BEMS 56 hour work week at $41K+ per year. Just curious.
