It is the first time she has ever noticed herself doing it. I felt so bad

for her. I have looked up Tourette's Syndrome, it just doesn't seem to fit.

Why not?

She has done this since about the age of three. She also has facial tics.

Especially given what you write above. Tourette's is very commonly

co-morbid with Asperger's. My oldest has a dx of Tourette's as well as AS;

has a couple with Tourette's.

Yes, what Salli said. I too am curious why Tourette's doesn't seem to fit?

I don't know of any other things that cause the symptoms you describe. But

I'm not a neurologist. Have you seen one about this?

Thanks for all your help.

My own experience tells me that sometimes doctors just suck. I know

there must be a lot of good doctors out there, but why I haven’t known

that much I cant tell. You have to be informed and this sometime is

complicated. I hope you find some help for your child. This is obviously

bothering her.

Keep us inform,

Oh how frustrating. :( I'm sorry. It is awful what we have to go through

to get our kids the proper dxs and treatments!

TS is very much related to Asperger's and ADHD and I suppose you could

consider many of the symptoms to be part of those dxs.

Try to remember that her dx doesn't change WHO SHE IS. It only changes what

you can do for her. also has a list of dxs after autism and that

list seems to keep growing. It can be very frustrating and even

frightening - how can a child with so many, many issues overcome them all

and become a functioning member of society? But I try to see them as tools

for getting him the services and treatments that he needs, rather

than...labels...or limitations...though it would help if the services he

needs were actually available here...but anyway.

I hope I am making a little bit of sense here and not just rambling, or

worse, offending you.

And alittle upset, maybe I just wanted to believe it was part of Asperger

Syndrome. It is just she has such a long dx already. And why wouldn't her

phsychatrist mention this, I am so aggervated. Thanks for all your help.

Tourette's, in my opinion, is relatively minor. One of the two

psychologists who dx'ed Enrique with AS has Tourette's himself and dx'ed

Enrique with that as well. Some Tourette's is really wild, but most is just

ticc-y and there has to be some vocal stuff to get the dx, but it isn't that

bad.

Yes, you have to do your homework before there is any point in talking to

many professionals.

I am not sure where to go from here. My husband just told me I need to stop

doing all of this and not worry.

Now THAT'S useful advice!

But I can't there is so much going on with her that I need to find out

everything and read about it all so that I can help her the best I can. I

am just ready to crawl in the corner and cry! And knowing she is noticing

it just plain out upsets me.

Yeah, that would bother me too.

I just don't have any way to help her most of the time and it sucks!

There are some things you can do for Tourette's; I have never looked into it

for Enrique cuz the AS was so much more of a problem, but if it is bothering

her, there are some things to try. I just don't happen to know what they

are as I pretty much forgot what Dr. Carr told me after Enrique was dx'ed.

Enrique's Tourette's is pretty mild at the moment, I think, or maybe I am

just used to him!

Maybe just knowing what it is and that it's nothing to worry about will help

her?

I hope so anyway.

Why doesn't it fit?

No offense. Just wondering because it sounds very Tourette's-like to me.

Some doctors! Besides, I thought arms flapping was a sign of autism.
