Guest guest
Has anyone experienced the " new " safer ambulance that AEV has put together? I am not a big fan of AEV, my opinion, however, they just came out with their new " Safer " ambulance. They are big on the " Attendant Restraints. " Here is the web site for it _http://www.aev.com/uploads/safetymod.pdf_ (http://www.aev.com/uploads/safetymod.pdf) . I have heard of attendant restraints, but never have seen them. Has anyone had any experience with attendant restraints, and do you think this will be a new trend in our field? Where do you find these devices? Guest guest
Was it just me, or did anyone else notice in the pictures that the suction unit was by the back doors, in other words, by the patient's feet? Guest guest
That appears to be a portable unit, not the truck-mounted suction. The vehicle-mounted unit is up near the patient's head end of the stretcher, between the two left-side attendant seats. Guest guest
The vehicle looks good. Actual action might be a different story. Per the description there are several spots for the suction to work from, as well as light controls and sharps containers. This is a perfect unit for all that. But to actually work in the back with a code or a bad trauma patient. I would personnaly like to have a shot to try it out. Guest guest
I have not seen the AEV vehicle in person, just in pictures and conversations. One question I have regarding it is the capability of transporting a second patient supine in this unit. One vehicle I do have experience with is our new truck designed and built by MedTec. We have had this truck in service for several months, and our crews love it. They are waiting expectantly for our two other ones to come in over the next month. We stole this idea from WinterPark Florida, and modified it for our operations. It has features such as: 1. Two attendant seats, one each side of the stretcher, equipped with 5 point harnesses. These seats are on tracks that allow you to extend into the patient compartment far enough to pinch your legs between the stretcher and seat. They are situated at appropriate places to allow for patient interventions that are common from these positions without having to unbuckle or move to accomplish them. 2. We added a 2nd " action " area by the seat at the end of the squadbench. This one is identical to the traditional one next to the airway chair and CPR seat and allows the person sitting in it to control all functions (lights, AC, suction, etc) and talk on the radio without moving. In addition, we added storage here for the most common used supplies in limited quantities. This allows a medic to initiate an IV, place a pt on oxygen, do a d-stick, etc without having to get up and retrieve equipment. 3. We angled back cabinets by both seats to prevent head strikes. 4. We made places for all equipment including the heart monitor so that we have no lose equipment while attendants are in the rear of the vehicle. I have put pictures of the interior of our unit as well as a demo photo from Winter Park showing this concept on the Yahoo page for this email list. You can find them here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/texasems-l/files/Attendant%20Restraints/ Let me know if you have any questions. Dudley PS: Make sure you are wearing your seatbelt ALL the time in the rear of the vehicle and make sure you use shoulder straps on all your patients on the stretcher. Guest guest
I agree that single captians seats are better from the outlook of personnel safety, we currently run a box that has two bench seats, seems a bit much however it sure is nice when average transport time to any facitlity is greater than 30 minutes, and on an MVC with limited resources, I would not want to do away with the ability to tranport more than one patient at a time on a backboard. maybe they have a fold down captains chair to accomodate this concern? Guest guest
Has anyone used the attendant restraints before? The person in the back actually with the " harness/5-point restrant devices? With all of the accidents in the back of an ambulance I am quite suprised that there are no guidelines for protection in the back of the box besides the lap?belts. my O2, Ron Re: Attendant Restraints I agree that single captians seats are better from the outlook of personnel safety, we currently run a box that has two bench seats, seems a bit much however it sure is nice when average transport time to any facitlity is greater than 30 minutes, and on an MVC with limited resources, I would not want to do away with the ability to tranport more than one patient at a time on a backboard. maybe they have a fold down captains chair to accomodate this concern? Guest guest
Schertz recently took delivery of an International with a rather differently designed box than anything else I've seen. They have the crew restraints on reel tethers. The configuration also is somewhat different from the norm. Anyone here familiar with that truck? --------------------------------- Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell.
