Guest guest
To those who care about this topic It appears that outside of the side effects -the greatest difference between the magnesium hydroxide (' Milk of Magnesia) or the magnesium citrate -is the use. While we were advised by Tanner's pediatric gastroenterologist to 'only' use the ' MOM if Tanner missed a day -which was not often once we started Dr. Adam's plan of increased nectar, less rice and other binding foods, and behavioral aspects that I posted -. Karey posted she is using the magnesium citrate 'daily' which of course caught my eye. (she posted) " The magnesium citrate is working well, not too much to start - we are using 1/4 tsp.- at night in juice. " While we only used the ' MOM when needed, when we needed to use it those few times -it worked (flavorings and colors and all) Tanner has not taken any magnesium (from the MOM or anywhere else) in probably almost a year now -and appears to be (Thank you God!) resolved of any constipation issues, and has been for almost a year as you will find in the archives. I don't know why there recently appears to be such anger when head's up are posted -our group was never like that before -for years. I believe it was Marina who warned me about senna when we used senna tea for Tanner's constipation -and I couldn't thank her enough -and told her that then -and again now -Thank you Marina. In fact in the recent post about constipation -you can see I even thanked Marina in that archive message too. Why would I attack someone trying to help me help my child? We as a group should feel free to question, comment, or share without feeling they are opening up a hornet's nest. We all are here because we have young children that we care for and about -and goodness knows if we can't get it together to help raise awareness and help them -then who? As I posted in my last message -I merely posted the side effects for the magnesium citrate as a head's up. Regardless of the dosage -we again are dealing with children not adults -and even low dosages 'may' have different effects, especially if used daily. If I had to give something to Tanner each day for constipation that by any other name is a drug ...with possible side effects -I wouldn't based on what I have learned unless I ran it by his pediatric gastroenterologist that helped him and so many others. Dr. gave me the laid back warnings of use of the wrong laxatives which makes me view them all in a different light now. I thank those here for the advice and head's up -and I thank the following for bringing the horror of pediatric constipation to an end! Question -it's a good thing. Lawrence MD (pediatric gastroenterologist) 5325 Greenwood Ave West Palm Beach Florida 561 840 1960 What Dr. said was " the most gentle laxative...most like Mother Nature " " ' Milk of Magnesia has provided effective, stimulant-free relief of constipation for over 125 years. Unlike some other laxatives, doctor recommended ' Milk of Magnesia does not contain the harsh stimulants that can cause pain and cramping. When taken at a lower dose, ' can also be used for fast-acting relief of acid indigestion, sour stomach, and heartburn. Available in Mint, Cherry, and Original formulas. " http://www.bayercare.com/htm/philmom.htm The side effects I posted were not BTW for name brand drugs -they were for the generic names too. When one advises here that " it's only a small amount so it's safe " did you hear this from a pediatric MD? If so -who? Nothing wrong with sharing -but even better to share all the info.
