My dear Bart,

You are so right on that things can change in the blink of an eye. I

held my breath reading your post. I am so grateful that you are still here

with

us. Wow - that certainly puts everything into perspective! God Bless you

and all the angels! Hugs, Rita

These days, no, as long as you are not immunocompromised (i.e. on cellcept,

prednisone, methotrexate (sometimes used in HLP, Lupus, and rheumatoid

arthritis).

Had you been TX'd already, I think you can figure out for yourself given the

above the resounding NO that all of us would shout in your general

direction. However....

You presumptively will not be allowed to donate blood, but you are hardly

doing to be doing that anyway. In the worst case, i.e. you receive

hepatitis C, you will not be a TX recipient. Hep A, which half of us have

had, and Hep B are not barriers to TX, but I believe Hep C is - being as

virulent as it is. Obviously, you will want to follow the artist's

prescription for wound care, and expect swelling, etc. depending on where

this is.

With the advent if antiviral agents (retrovir and the like) even my hep c

information may be outdated. You will find out the negatives from your neph

soon enough ;)

As a side note, I was in a miserable auto accident today....was broadsided;

spun across SIX lanes of superhighway and ended up facing traffic on the

opposite side (all the way over, having made it through 3 lanes of oncoming

traffic), being blown THROUGH the barrier between the two sides of the

freeway. All tires were blown; the car a complete and total loss....all 4

sides, front and rear as well, smashed to bits. Didn't do the freeway

barriers much good either....blew them all over the highway. This was in

heavy traffic, but only the offending broadsider and I made contact.

Anyone who desires clear and convincing evidence that guardian angels and a

Higher Power exists, already has it, as I am writing this email now, but....

read the below:

All involved walked away without a scrape, ding, or an ache. Police

scratched their heads in collective wonderment. And fined me for not having

an updated insurance card. The officers and I had a good laugh over that,

as did the helicopter pilots the police summoned when they

arrived....thinking VERY bad things were going to be discovered.

Clearly, aside from the angels, you are all working in my life for goodness

and things better.

As bad as we think we have it....in ten seconds our lives can and will

change.

Worst part: I was headed to the track to bet on the ponies. And didn't get

to go...have to LMFAO at that. Never hurts to be cheerful....I can get

another car, and face the agonies of insurance and all that.....thus another

survival experience for our collective archives!

Cheers, to all,

Bart

Bart,

Praise God for sparing you from harm. We serve an awesome God! I am glad you

arn't hurt. We can replace damaged vehicles etc. but not our bodies.Every time I

get on the HWY I ask God to be with me the traffic seems to get worse. I don't

know about your area but it seems to me that drivers today only think of

themselves. I will be praying for you as you go through all the work of getting

another car.

Bart,

So glad to hear you got through that accident unscathed. What a

miracle! My son had a similar experience about a year after his

transplant. He was rear-ended in heavy traffic on the interstate

going 75 or 80 mph and was spun 360 degrees before he was able to

steer the car down the steep slope of the gully-like median. It was a

wonder he didn't hit anyone else (the car who hit him then hit

another car in the other lane) and didn't roll the car going down the

median slope. He walked away basically with only seat belt bruises -

car was totaled. The paramedics and mobile ER that arrived on the

scene were very nervous about all the medication he was on, but after

checking him over decided he was fine.

You may feel a bit stiff and sore once your body lets you know the

stress it's been through, so take it easy.

Bart praise the powers that be....It's always good to make the police stare in

wonderment rather than make that phone call to loved ones they all hate to face.

I am very glad to hear that all parties escaped without a scratch. Good luck

with the hunt to find a new car.

Make sure you get any aches checked out with a doctor...I'm sure your body will

be pointing out where you tensed up during your little spin on the highway over

the next few days. It's those little sprains and strains that get ya after an

accident like that.

Put your feet up and have a cold one, I will toast your guardian angels tonight.

The accident sounds horrible! Thank God that you (and everybody else) were

uninjured...

I can't believe they cited you for expired insurance card -- half the people

out there are driving without insurance...

Anyhow -- I hope the ponies you were going to bet on lost ;)

Bart,

How absolutely wretched. What a relief you are still with us! An

grateful that you are here and intact. Whew!

Key question - was the other guy insured? Might help a bit when you go car

shopping.

Bart,

This is very amazing! I'm so glad that you are all right. It is a shame

that your car is totalled, but at least you got out of the accident without

injury!

Bart,

My goodness, cheers to you indeed! I find I'm speechless and a bit in awe of

your

decription, six lanes and no one was hurt. Just remarkable. I am so very happy

you

are still here.

He claims to be; we'll find out soon enough....in any case I carry under/un

insured coverage, its cheap. Something like half of the insurance papers in

Texas are phony, so......an ounce of prevention......

This is going to be a fun morning of phone calls....I didn't feel up to

starting the claims process yesterday.

Thank you all who sent kind notes. I am well, and now the rest is annoying

paperwork. I hadn't planned on getting a car, and paying for it (I drive

cars until they die) bur for all I know the adjustor will repair it (Lexus

may be cheaper to repair than replace). Who knows, more will be

revealed....

Cheers, Bart

PS - hope the other guy got a ticket too.

Praise God you are fine Bart. I cannot imagine how frightening that

must have been.

The insurance and dealing with the car is a pain, but a welcome give

other possible outcomes.

God is so good, ALL the time!

I hope you are not feeling sore from the accident and that the

insurance company is easy to work with (if that is possible!)

God bless you Bart!

BArt:

I had an accident in my Lexus in March, and they fixed it like new. They are

great cars, especially when you need it - my dealer keeps photos of one a guy

wrapped around a light pole (it even fell) and walked away from w/a bump on the

head. Now granted, no where near your level of damage (a guy turned in front of

me on an icy road) but it looks like new. The break point in NJ for fix or total

is around 80% of FMV (there is some leeway).

Yes, it does stink that through no fault of your own, you have to go get a

rental car, go do the estimates, and handle all the insurance BS. It's a royal

pain, but at least you're not hurt.
