Guest guest
Hey Amy..Thanks. I guess this is a question I should have asked before yesterday. I am off the CellCept and have been off of it for a few months now. I am only on High BP meds. I got a referral from a friend..I went yesterday and got one on my lower back. We used one I found on the wall and changed it a bit to what I really wanted. Afterhe started, I was like..OOOPS. We talked and he didn't say anything except heart patients and immune disorders. I finished it and I love it. I guess I will break the news to my neph next month. I had one before when I was 16. It wasn't a " professional " one, if you know what I mean. i had it removed, but that was before laser....IT hurt. Thanks, I guess I'll get it from my neph soon enough. Guest guest
:-) this was a question I asked my doctor too. :-) I was told that " he wouldn't recommend it but also he wouldn't stop me from doing so " ...once I was off the prednisone for over a year. If you are on any type of steroid therapy then you should wait until you are off of it just due to all the nasty things steroids do to your skin, your immune system, and the like. If you aren't on steroids I would check with your doctor to make sure there isn't anything else that would keep you from getting one. I have a 4 " x4 " tatt on my left shoulder, it was my 30th birthday present to myself...pre-diagnosis. I wanted to get my second one for my 35th birthday but it looks like I'll be waiting until at least my 38th....I turn 36 at the end of this month and I'm still on prednisone..... One other off topic bit about tattoos...if you can, design it yourself. I designed my first one and I have the drawings done up for my second. If you can't draw then find someone who can and work with them to get what feels right to you. Take your time and work the design over, let it sit for a few weeks and come back to it...if it still feels right then go for it. Remember this is permanent and they are more painful to remove than they are to put on. Any good tattoo shop will do original graphic design for a fee but it's worth it. It feels great knowing that I have original art on my body and not something that a few hundred other people may have picked off the wall. Oh and if you are unsure of the location draw the tattoo, or a shape the size of the tatt, on your body with a marker, it helps to find out if it will show or not with certain clothes on before you have inked permanently. Amy G. off subject... Does anyone know anything about.. If getting a tatoo could cause any problems for people like us......
Guest guest
LOL!! I think this is one of those " its easier to get forgiveness than permission " situations. :-) Just make sure you keep it clean so you don't end up with infection problems...a little Neosporin daily goes a long way. So what did you get? I am so dying to get my second one done (much to my doctors disappointment), it's going to be a red fox wrapped around my ankle. My current one is a design that incorporates runes to represent my kids, my husband, myself, and honors the memory of the twins I miscarried....it's all in blackwork. The fox I want done will be in blackwork with a slight amount of red-orange fox color shading around the face. Amy G. Re: off subject... Hey Amy..Thanks. Guest guest
I guess there's a theoretical greater risk of infection, especially in people who are immune suppressed (which doesn't apply to most IgAN patients unless they are on an immune system suppressing medication, or they are in more advanced renal failure). I don't see how it could affect anything other than that. Guest guest
Hepatitis!!! If there is a poor level of sanitation by the tatoo artist or the manufacturer of the inks and tools used blood borne illnesses have been known to be passed around. If you're thinking about getting one check out the parlor very well first. I'm planning on just doing temporaries if I do any at all, but I have a couple of friends who operate a good parlor locally. They'd be the only ones I'd trust because I know them so well and can ask them pointed questions without seeming out of line. Guest guest
I want to thank everyone for the replies...... I used a guy that came highly recommended from a friend of mine that I have known for about 20 years. ( he is covered from head to toe)..He gave me the name of 1 person and said if he wasn't available, wait for him. I did just that. When we started talking, I made sure and asked a lot of questions...I watched as he opened a new set of needles....ink, etc. I was a very sterile place. I was actually impressed. He has been doing this for 18 years and we talked about all the changes...Tattoos have only been legal here for 3 years, so they make sure to do everything safe and clean as possible. He was the person the health dept used when new parlors were opening in the area...He went in and helped educate the people. I am making sure to keep the site as clean as possible and using the ointment they gave me exactly as they told me....When I go next moth to my neph....we will discuss some additional tests too...I am sure. I am taking an antibiotic for a different reason...acne, so that will help if there should be any infection....... I really like it though....When I get a pic I will send it to you Amy... Guest guest
, Reading this I have a few concerns to share with all, that don't necessarily apply directly in your situation. These concerns surround your belief that, because you are taking an antibiotic for acne, that this " coverage, " carries over to any organism that might infect your skin abrasion from the tattoo. This can most decidedly be untrue! Antibiotics come in a couple of classes (actually four) but to make these easy let's just think of narrow-spectrum (meaning very organism specific) and broad spectrum (covers several bacterial pathogens). In your case, your assertion isn't unreasonable.....your acne antibiotic is almost certainly broad-spectrum and probably a penicillin derivative (ampicillin, etc.) However.....if you were to be taking an antibiotic for your acne and developed a urinary infection.....your antibacterial action would NOT, almost certainly, cover the organisms inhabiting your urinary tract (in fact, under certain circumstances, your docs would kill your acne med in order to treat your urinary tract infection....[some bacteria, especially those called " gram negative, " for a staining characteristic, LOVE the urine, and more so after the pt has been taking the usual antibiotics]). The bottom line is don't assume surrounding infection that whatever antibiotic you are taking is going to help some other situation that comes up....like your acne and tattoo....unless your doctor agrees this to be the case. Never take leftover meds in this class without consulting your doc...you can do very real harm to yourself through either complacency by taking a drug that does you no good or actually by consuming one that harms you relative to what you SHOULD be treated with. In fact, for us, assuming virtually always leads to the old adage, an ASS out of U and ME. Be careful out there. Cheers, Bart Re: Re: off subject... I want to thank everyone for the replies...... Guest guest
This reminds me of Motrin/Ibuprufen. They are supposed to be anti-inflammatory drugs...so one might presume that they are good for IGA...but as mentioned before in this group, brufen is not good for our kidneys.
