Guest guest
Dear : Sometimes game stores or record stores will buy your previously used games and cds, that can put some money in your pocket. Also, you can sell blood at the Red Cross, I'd would give them a call. Also, turning in cans and bottles can bring some spare change. Go to a Food Bank at a church or neighborhood outlet. They should at least give you some food. Also, if there is an Aldi's around--they have really cheap food. Otherwise, dried beans and rice are really the cheapest and probably alot healthier and filling than ramen noodles. I once lived on half a box of mac&cheese a day with my roomate, we were so broke. Another idea is to get part-time work at a restaurant bussing tables at night--you at least can get free food. Conversely, you might be able to get something part-time at your college's dining hall--I worked at mine and ate dinner there even though I wasn't on plan. See if your Mom could even just send you 10 bucks. Regarding the bus pass problem--do you have a bike so maybe you can ride that to school? Or you can walk if it isn't too far. The semester should be ended--maybe you can try to sell your textbooks back to the bookstore. It sounds like you have some income/budget problems. You need to go through it with a fine tooth comb. If you email it to me or post it, I could give you some suggestions. You might need to get another roommate. Do you receive student loans? If so, you could see if you can buy a meal pass. Ultimately, there are times we are really at the bottom of the barrel and need food -- there are agencies like the Salvation Army and Rescue Mission. So you get a meal there for a week, then volunteer your time when you are able. Also, look up the SHARE program. They provide about $15 worth of food for a little volunteer time and there is no income test. http://www.stretcher.com/stories/971201a.cfm http://www.sharefoodprogram.org/ Almost every state has this program--I don't know what state you live in but I would check it out. This site is fantastic and a great resource: http://www.bettertimesinfo.org/2004index.htm I hope this helps. Kathy in Syracuse
