This year's resolutions, projects and priorities

First, I want to apologise for sending a digest with a

half written out subject. While I was typing the

subject, my fingers must have hit the wrong button and

Yahoo declared my email sent. Sorry!

Second: I wish you all a happy new year! My new years

resolutions are similar to everyone's here. It is to

lose the " body clutter " the extra pounds and be at a

healthy, normal weight for my height and body type. I

also want to decrease my cholesterol and heart attack

risk. I know I will end up dying of a heart attack

(my family history--its in the genes--some people get

cancer, we get heart attacks) but I would like it to

be later rather than sooner.

The other part of my NY resolutions is to get a handle

on my budget. I'm not alone either in going broke

pursuing one diet after another, one program after

another, one set of carbless to another set of complex

carb foods in my pantry; nevermind the supplements and

diet foods.

That's over.

We have an Aldi's in my regional shopping sphere and

since everytime I go there, I spend way less, I plan

to use this venue as my main food budget strategy.

True they have many fattening and salt rich foods but

they also have basic good foods too that I think I can

put together for healthy meals. I am going to post

one Aldi recipe per week here.

And no, I will never give up Wegmans... I will still

go there, just for stuff I can't get at Aldi's. We

don't have a Walmart Super Shopping Center--but

really, that's okay.

The other aspect I have not mentioned is exercise. I

plan to do tapes until we have some decent weather. I

used to pay for a gym I never went to so that is out

(incompatible with the budget goals). I have some

decent walking and strengthening tapes and honestly, I

am so out of shape, the last time I started a

walking/running program, I kept hurting myself (sore

knees, ankles, back). I need to build the strength to

haul this overfat body around, it is serious.

Oh, my weight. Well, hold one while I run upstairs to

jump on the scale.......

Okay, I'm back. a cool 190 lbs. I recently have gone

up a pantsize (to size 18). I am 5'4 " .

I turn forty this year--in August.

I plan to use the online WW and this list. My work

hours preclude WW meetings (I rarely get out of work

by 5:30) and the morning meetings are all at 9 a.m.

The Saturday meetings are at 7:30! And this is

throughout my region, the venue closest to me is 10:30

and 4:30pm. Once a year they do a WW at work but

those meetings are at 4 pm. I don't know how working

people go to these.

Some challenges: The food at work. Yes, we get more

junk per day than anyone. Why? we are nurses and our

patients want to thank us. (I am a chemo infusion

nurse). The thought is what counts. I think my

strategy for resisting temptation will be to consider

all the food contaminated. Once I image some awful

germs on that food, I won't be able to go near the

pantry.

I'll let you all know how things pan out this week.

On to the menu planning!

Hi Kathy,

Good luck with your resolve to lose weight, get healthy, and

incorporate exercise into your plan. Just a note on how to handle

all the " goodies " your patients bring. Someone on this board said

once, and I think it was Kris who is now at goal, that when she

wants to stay away from " red light foods " she looks at it like it is

all yellow and fatty, like the stuff they suck out of your thights

with liposuction. That is some image, and it helped me to look at

it that way.

Best of luck,

Terri in WI
