Guest guest
I went to a new Endo yesterday and left with a bunch of tests to be ran. I was really impressed with this Endo. She took the time to actually talk to me while reviewing my medical records to see where we needed to go next since I just don't feel like I am getting much better even while on the Synthroid. Well, I belive it was Topper(if not, please forgive me!) who was telling me from day one of seeing my labs that I needed to be evaluated for a pititary gland problem/tumor. Seems pretty spot on advice and I have a consult in for a MRI to see if that is causing some of this mayhem in my life. Also since I had had a hysterectomy at age 27, and am now almost 36, new Endo tells me that the other Endo had ran tests but neglected to tell me I was looking pretty premenopausal according to the lab results. So I am getting a bone density scan done since I am on Synthroid which could lead to bone mineral loss on its own. I'm glad to hear some doctor is concerned with my later down the road life as well as focused on the here and now!!! What a blessing! I am also going to have the following labs ran: ACTH Cortisol am IgF-1 Vitamin D 23-Hydroxy Wow, that is a bunch of alphabet soup! I had previously had the test with the nasty little bugger of a pill that tested for Cushings Syndrome/Disease that was negative. New Endo wants to check the reverse and see if I am even producing cortisol with this test I believe? I believe that the ACTH is an adrenal gland test right? Could explain the constant fatigue if adrenals are a part of all this right? IgF-1 from what I looked up seems to be some sort of test for pituitary gland functioning. From what I read, it is used to measure how much hormone is being put into the system and they also monitor this if they remove pituitary gland tumors. Sounds a bit scary actually. But if it means I won't have to live feeling this way, I'm game to have a look at it. I guess that the Vitamin D test is being called for due to possibly osteosporosis? But I was reading and found that if it is low that could be a result of high amounts of parathyroid hormone indicating that I could have hyperparathyroidism. Doesn't sound good at all either. Has anyone else had such a battery of tests ran like this? Is it common? From just typing all that in here, I really feel like the new Endo is really taking the pituitary gland stuff seriously. I just feel a bit lost and overwhelmed, but I am at happy that the new Endo is taking a more serious approach other than the other Endo's telling me I was just lazy and needed to watch what I eat (that Endo is primarily a diabetic doc, I hope she's better with them than she was with me!!). Thanks for reading and any tidbits of info you may have to offer. Take care, Kathy
Guest guest
Hello again, Hey Peggy, how about I just use Peg and you be Peggy! LOL. I was a bit confused when I saw my (your name), but then I confuse easily these days! Thanks Lori and for the welcome, and anyone else I might have missed. I am new to a group like this and am not good at using it yet. I have already found such wonderful information as I browsed the links. I think I'm feeling a glimmer of hope, thanks everyone! Guest guest
That's fine with me, Peg. I understand being confused, I think it's part of the condition. As I said before, I learn something new on here everyday. I didn't know SSRIs made thyroid conditions worse. No wonder I felt a little better when I cut the dose.PEggyPeggy Stull wrote: Hello again, Hey Peggy, how about I just use Peg and you be Peggy! LOL.
