Guest guest
so it happened again, this time around 2:30, i felt like my chest was being weighed down by a book and then i started having difficulty breathing. it's like i couldn't get full lungs of air. i happened to be in my car at lunch and then came back to the office and really couldn't breathe and started freaking out and had to take 1/2 an ativan!!!!!!!!! i haven't had to do this in almost one year!!!!!!!!!!! i'm so disappointed. i'm so disillusioned with this armour. since starting it, i seemed to have backslided instead of improved. it is because of panic, anxiety, nervousness that i got on the armour even though i was doing relatively ok for a long time but now it's all back. i had a bottle of ativan that was filled on 6-16-06 and i had used 5 pills in this whole time and then today. now i'm calm and really sleepy and have an hr left of work. what could this be??????????? i'm so tired of this. i don't think it is a panic attack because they happen out of the blue, i'm not thinking about anything and i'm not nervous about anything. when i start feeling my breathing get tightened and short, that makes me nervous and that brings on the panic, not the other way around...............what do i do???????????? Guest guest
Fluttering adrenals can bring on a panic attack with no trigger... Run through meds again.. What dose of what med were you on before the Armour? What dose of Armour are you on now? How many times a day do you take it? This latest attack about how long (hours) was it from your last Armour dose? Do you dose by swallowing or sublingually? Are you taking Adrenal support, what kind? You may be one that can't take Armour... Just need to figure out what is going on.. What was your pulse rate during the attack.. did you notice when it normalized again when it was off? Are you consistent with when you dose your Armour? MMMMMMMMMM When did you last eat (before the attack)? That's all that is coming to mind right now... Oh.. were you upset about anything pending this afternoon or evening? How was sleep last night? Falling asleep and sleeping through the night... Just casting for anything that might give us clues as to what your body is trying to say... Guest guest
Same thing happened to me today! Around 2:30 (right before I had to pick up my youngest from school), my heart started racing, my hands were shaky, I couldn't focus on a thought, and I didn't know what I was suppossed to be doing at that moment. I took and Inderal and laid down on my bed with the pillow over my eyes. I had a squeezing headache, too (this was not a migrane). After 20 minutes, I got up in time to reach my son's school and the drive home was SO slow...it's like I would never get home. I laid down again for 20 more minutes and all was well...of course, now I'm wide awake. My Synthroid was just increased from 50mcg to 75mcg and in two weeks, I'll go up to 88mcg. (The 75 is just to finish out the rest of the 50s I have on hand--splitting one pill to get 75mcg). I know the feeling you are describing, but it wasn't a panic attack--just happened out of the blue and i felt like I had just finished running a marathon and all I had been doing was folding a load of towels. Hang in there. Topper, what is fluttering adrenals? I know where the adrenal glands are located, and was wondering if there is any " pain " associated with them being out of whack? (I only ask because of a persistent pain on my right mid-back side since the increase in Synthroid...not sure if it is related.) Happy Monday...can't wait till this weekend---PIRATES! Guest guest
Give us a time frame for the dosage increases... how long on the 50, how long will you be on the 75? Fluttering adrenals... sputtering.. gasping... when they aren't able to put out enough first thing in the morning and short you.. then catch up later and then shoot some more out of the blue... Same deal happens when you shoot out of bed wide awake at night for no good reason... it's a surge from the adrenals hitting the blood stream. Pain. I THINK so. But have never read anything on it specifically. About 7 years ago I had miserable back pain. Both sides, right by the kidneys, I suspected I had a kidney infection.. I was on crutches then and that aggravated the pain in my back. The only relief from it was to use ice on my back. I would lay on my side stand a 2 liter bottle of frozen water at the small of my back... slide back into it and press the bottle between me and a pillow, which was against the wall.. I'd lay that all evening, then get a fresh bottle for bed time and go to sleep like that... Found out later that you can do permanent damage to your kidneys with that.. but it was the only way to relieve the pain.. during the day, at work I just had to deal with it. I did read a blurb once that you can feel some pain with dying adrenals... What it wasn't specific exactly what kinds.. and the other stuff I read said that if your adrenals die, you die.. so that didn't seem to fit... cuz I didn't actually die. It was two years later that I got into studying this stuff and then started on natural thyroid and the whole adrenal glandular. ... now.. happy me.. no longer needed adrenal support, they are working at their own little pace again and we're doing good!! *BIG grin* For you, if you have insurance.. I'd say go in and have it checked... if it's something going on with one of your kidneys it's a whole lot better to play it safe then to risk something bad happening. I didn't have insurance.. Had recently been kicked out by my BF and was only a few months into a new job.. I had ZIP for options... And, to be honest.. didn't much care at that point if I dropped dead. Okay.. I'm behind... weekend.. Pirates... ??? what am I missing? Topper () On Mon, 21 May 2007 21:08:17 -0700 (PDT) Dorothy dorothyleftoz@...> writes: > Same thing happened to me today! Guest guest
Dorothy, What you describe is very much a panic attack. They DO come “out of the blue.” I still remember my FIRST panic attack SEVENTEEN years ago! I was sitting at my dining room table reading a book with my feet up on a nearby chair, enjoying the afternnoon, my son was napping peacefully in his room, and all of a sudden my heart started racing and my hands tingled and my head felt “weird” and I felt trapped. It lasted almost an hour. I have no idea what causes them – neither do the doctors, really. It “could” be adrenals, thryroid, stress, or a chemical imbalance — no idea why — but I still get them now and then — mostly it’s just anxiety but I have had to get out of line at a store when shopping for household items if an “attack” hits. It’s scary. Sue I know the feeling you are describing, but it wasn't a panic attack--just happened out of the blue and i felt like I had just finished running a marathon and all I had been doing was folding a load of towels. .. Guest guest
it seems to have flared up since the armour though. i was actually doing well with the whole anxiety, panic thing for months and months. now all of a sudden, i feel nervous, panicky all the time with a few hours here and there of normalcy. i can actually feel my chest loosen up when i feel better. i think the panic comes from the anticipation of it happening again. like now i am scared that this will happen again around 2:30 and last till i get off work at 6. the funny thing is once i fall asleep at night, i feel fine and when i wake up, i feel all relaxed. as soon as i am up and getting ready and head out the door, i feel like i have an IV drip of adrenaline in me and i feel on edge. i got to work this morning and my breathing became labored ,chest tight. now it is about 11:30 and i'm feeling better. i DID NOT take my armour today Dorothy wrote: Same thing happened to me today! Guest guest
I had switched back to half Armour and half Levo a couple weeks ago, just to give Armour a 2nd try and I was SO achy, panicky, and tired all the time at same dose equivalent of my Levo/Cyto. Guest guest
You don’t need to feel or be stressed to have a panic attack, that’s what suck about them. Sue Panic attacks are sudden surges of overwhelming fear that that comes without warning and without any obvious reason. It is far more intense than having anxiety or the feeling of being 'stressed out' that most people experience. One out of every 75 people worldwide will experience a panic attack at one time in their lives. In any given year, about 1/3 of American adults have at least one panic attack; most of these adults never develop repeated panic attacks. http://www.anxietypanic.com/ that's the thing though, i don't feel stressed nor do i feel like i have any hidden psychiatric issues. it just pisses me off. i used to be such a carefree spirit, nothing would scare me and i would love to go places with reckless abandon. now i am scared to get on a plane or go out to eat with friends or do anything because i am scared that i will get a panic attack or whatever this is................ sarah zanelli wrote: I have panic attacks something like that too... just comes out .. think its becuse of stress really.. Guest guest
That's just it Tempy and Palma... a panic attack can result from a stressful situation, yes, with fatigued adrenals it can be a disgustingly tiny little stressor that causes them to surge... they will just surge on their own.. actually a delayed reaction either to your body waking up this morning and the glands not being able to fulfill that call at that time... or a bird fluttering passed the window three hours ago... Sometimes they dont' escalate to a full fledge panic attack, they are less severe, and anxiety attack... those are much easier to handle. About the only thing you can do is to realize what it is, and uncontrolled reaction by your body... kick back, relax, breathe deeply and let your body work through the surge. Since it's all revolving around what, when the body is working normally, a fight or flight response. Some folks find that expending energy, physical activity, in something positive helps their body to burn off the surge of hormones more quickly. The more you fret and fear them the more stress to your glands, the longer they take to recover and the greater the risks of having attacks. What dose of what med were you on before the Armour? no meds at all What dose of Armour are you on now? started at 1/4 grain for 5 days then stopped because of the panic attack. then a couple days later, started back at 1/4 grain and then couple days later, started on 1/2 grain. have been on that for 3 days How many times a day do you take it? once in the morning This latest attack about how long (hours) was it from your last Armour dose? about 7 hrs Do you dose by swallowing or sublingually? swallow Are you taking Adrenal support, what kind? none You may be one that can't take Armour... the same thing happened when i took levoxyl at the lowest dose about a yr and half ago Just need to figure out what is going on.. What was your pulse rate during the attack.. did you notice when it normalized again when it was off? how do i measure my pulse? usually my heartrate seems to be ok. Are you consistent with when you dose your Armour? yes, i take it everyday except when i panic like this, then i skip the next day. like, i didn't take it today. and i just popped some ativan, the breathing is horrible. the funny thing is i don't feel panicky or scared this time, i just can't breathe so i took some ativan. i HATE having to do that!!!! MMMMMMMMMM When did you last eat (before the attack)? i have VERY POOR eating habits. i drank some decaf coffee with cream and sugar around 8:15 am after taking my armour 1/2 grain around 7 am, then i did not eat till about 3 That's all that is coming to mind right now... Oh.. were you upset about anything pending this afternoon or evening? no i don't stress about anything, generally very laid back. i only stress about panicking at work now. How was sleep last night? Falling asleep and sleeping through the night... sleep was great, able to fall asleep well, probably because i took ativan, i was drowsy but was able to sleep well and felt really calm and relaxed in the morning but then got up and started getting ready and felt edgy then.......... Just casting for anything that might give us clues as to what your body is trying to say... Guest guest
Hey Topper, I started the 50mcg on March 29 and was on it for 6 weeks before having labs again. After 8 weeks (at my next doctor's appt. on May 16), he increased the Synthroid to 88mcg, but since I had 14 days worth of 50mcg pills left, he told him to cut those in half to finish the RX out--which would make my new dose 75mcg until I run out and can take the 88mcg (he gave me samples this time...save me some money!) I should start the 88mcg in a few days. Except for being cold all the time now, I can " feel " my memory slowly improving. The weight is still piling on--even though I'm now never hungry and hardly eat--but my hair looks great and the extra weight has plumped up my wrinkles. (Gotta look at the bright side :-) Here were my last labs (just posting them again for you): TSH from .005 (on Feb 7) to 7.894 (on May 9) (range 0.35-5.50) T4 free, direct 1.05 (range 0.61-1.76) Triiodothyronine, free, serum 2.2 (range 2.3-4.2) Thanks! --- topper2@... wrote: > Give us a time frame for the dosage increases... how > long on the 50, how > long will you be on the 75? > > Fluttering adrenals... sputtering.. gasping... when > they aren't able to > put out enough first thing in the morning and short > you.. then catch up > later and then shoot some more out of the blue... > > Same deal happens when you shoot out of bed wide > awake at night for no > good reason... it's a surge from the adrenals > hitting the blood stream. > > Pain. Some folks find that expending energy, physical activity, in something positive helps their body to burn off the surge of hormones more quickly. Yep, I ran around and round, miles a day, for over about 8 yrs on acct of the fight or flight thing. It was THE only thing that would quell the anxiety and panic attacks. I did this instinctively all that time because it worked, for the most part. Inbetween times, I had this free floating type of anxiety. Way later, I found out my cortisol was running very high (more than likely) to pick up the pace for both very high, then very low thyroid hormones.
