I dont know whether to be upset or angry at the moment... For those who dont

know//remember, i do this sort of dancing/sport called Calisthenics....I

cant compete because ive always had this thing wrong with my shoulders so i

cant do simple things like put my hands up straighti n the air keeping my

back straight.....It used to be ok coz there was always two teams when i was

yonger but hte last few yeras theres only been one, so teh coach lets me

just do it up the back and do it in the concert.....Most of the girls dont

mind especially the older ones, but ive alwaqys known these two girls have

had a problem with it...Not that theyve ever admitted it.... So today i find

out they defiently do have a problem with it and arnt happy about it...I was

upset before but now im just angry, Its not like ive ever been able to

physically do it properly, just because they are both perfect skinny

flexible girls who seem to have no problems in life....I wasnt gonna do it

anymore next year anyway, i was just going to keep coaching because ive

really had more fun doing that this year then actually doing it.. its just

so frustrating....sorry, i just had to get this out :( " sigh "

Hi Bel,

I feel badly that you feel badly.

Who cares what they think-you've earned your right to be there.

And the coach supports you, and the majority of the girls support you

being there.

You know, you can't please everybody all of the time. There are always

people

around who are small of mind and small of heart.

You make sure you feel strong within yourself about your right to have

your place there. You never surrender any part of yourself to someone

else's ignorance. Not your self-love, or self-imagine, or your enjoyment of

persuing something you love to do.

ly, their opinion only shows what kind of girls they are. It says

nothing about you at all.

You, Belinda, are no doubt out-performing them. And if your body could

cooperate more, they would see that.

You are a skilled performer; it's just the body that has a weakness-not you.

You grow, and they shrink everytime you do these positive things for

yourself in your life.

You are much more important than their limited attitudes,

and you quietly and successfully claim that by realizing their opinions are

not

important.

What matters is that you are on your side.

If you are in a position to say something to them, you can always say

" Gee, with that attitude, I sure hope nothing ever happens to you. I don't

think

you could handle it. "

;-)

Belinda,

I would say that if you don't have a problem and your coach doesn't have a

problem and you're having fun, let it be the problem of those two girls.

They can worry about it and let it wreck THEIR time, I would stick with it

if you like it and you're having fun.

Belinda-

How frustrating. Then it makes it look like you are switching to coaching

to please them. and you sure don't want to give them that satisfaction or

the belief that they are right. But - it's what you wanted to do. Did they

tell you their feelings or did someone else pass it along to you? I wonder

if the best course is to go on as you would have anyway, ignoring their

opinion. I hope some of the wiser folks with chime in with their thoughts.

Hold your ground and keep your chin up!

I agree with Michele and - and I'm waiting for the wiser folks too - but

here's my 2 cents. Don't let their problem become your problem. Hold your

ground - you are as entitled at they are and if it makes you happy - seek your

happiness - don't give them the power to take it or anything away from you.

Hugs to you!! But you shouldn't do things to make people like that

happy, you need to do what makes you happy.

Hang in there and let us know what you do.

I am definitely not wiser but I do have an opinion. You should

stick to YOUR plan! There's always people who aren't going to like

what you're doing even if it's creating world peace. Sounds like you

are finishing what you started and planning your next move anyway. I

like that quality in someone-a person who doesn't quit because

you're ready for the next thing without fulfilling your current

obligations. Do what you want to do-you can't please everyone all

of the time so don't bother when it's just because they're acting

ugly anyway.

Bel,

Why are you letting those girls bug you. You are doing something good and

fun. Its not your fault you have a dissability, its their fault they cant

see past it :)

Your friend always :)

Janay-

Those are great words to live by! Thanks! I'm about to stir up some

trouble trying to get parents in our town working together on IEP issues.

I'll go about it in a gentle way. It's all about educating parents to be a

good participant in the IEP team, not about the schools doing anything

wrong. But - you know people will not like the boat rocking.

There's the wisdom I was waiting for!

If you are in a position to say something to them, you can always say

" Gee, with that attitude, I sure hope nothing ever happens to you. I don't

think

you could handle it. "
