Recovery time after partial thyroidectomy??

I am (finally) having my surgery on May 30th for the removal of the right side of my thyroid. My surgeon told me today that the usual recovery time is about 10 days to 2 weeks but it could be as short as 7-10 days. I heard from a couple of people that they were fine after 3-5 days; does this sound right? I know everyone is different but I am trying to figure out my schedule to return back to work! Can you tell me what your recovery was like after this procedure? I am 39 years old and in good shape and health besides this thyroid problem! Thanks so much, I am getting pretty nervous now that it's getting closer.....

I had a total thyroidectomy, which I know is different. And mine was

pretty complicated, which yours won't be. I thought the worst part

of the whole thing was the sore throat from the breathing tube. And

it was tough to sleep because I could only get comfy on my

back. First 3 days were the hardest. I'd say I could have gone back

to work after 2 weeks if I wasn't a dental hygienist. I was really

only on medication for pain for the first week. After that, didn't

take anything.

I ended up with a plate and eight screws in my arm six month before

the thyroid surgery and it was nothing. So when I had the thyroid

surgery I figured it would be the same. I didn't take hardly any pain

pills afterwards. I must have a high tolerance for pain because I was

not feeling any. Voice was a little rough from having the tube in my

throat for about a day. But then I over did it. Went to the store

shopping four days later with my sister. I made it 3/4 thru the store

when all of a sudden I knew I needed to sit down. My sister said I

was white as a sheet. I ended up finding a seat and letting her check

us out of the store and then I took it easy the next week. So don't

over do like I did!
