Guest guest
List members et al, but also for Wes, Gene, or others with Texas specific " legalese " knowledge, , This is a question that I was asked by a client and I don't know where to find the answer for them so I am asking for input here. Do you know what regulations apply to ambulances as far as signage on them or ownership? Do you have to have a license to own one (ambulance that is)? The client is building a free-standing emergency room that is unattached to a hospital (they have all that stuff covered). They will have board certified EM physicians, ER nurses, laboratory, imaging, etc... and will be able to take care of life threatening emergencies. In addition to the sign " Emergency " on the side, they are thinking that an ambulance parked by our ambulance entrance would be a good advertisement? (opinions on that welcomed) The idea is to put the name of the freestanding emergency center on it. At this time they do not want to get a license as a Provider. Any problems with this? Special regulations? Could they even consider using the ambulance in a non RLS mode or would that require them to license the rig and create a separate ambulance company if they were to get into the transportation of a patient (for hospital admission.) Advice appreciated.... As far as the last sentence goes I think if you are transporting in an ambulance you had better be licensed as such. Louis N. Guest guest
Louis - Strongly recommend that they confirm with Medicare and Medicaid that they will qualify for reimbursement for services, especially for EMS companies to transport to that free-standing facility. Would not be the first time for someone spending a lot of money without running all the traps. May also want to consider that they may give the impression that they provide services that they do not provide - transportation. May be a good idea to not also to be in the transport business, since competitors would probably prefer to take patients elsewhere. Good luck on their new venture!
