Guest guest
I have to go hypo soon to get ready for my radiation treatment (ugh). I am currently on 25 mcg of Cytomel 2x/day. Once I stop taking it, does anyone have a guess as to how fast I'm going to feel really crappy? I stop on 5/21. I'd like to try and finish out the month at work. I'm only part time, I've missed April because of the TT, and I'm missing June because of the radiation. Any advice would be appreciated!! Also, if anyone has done the LID diet and has any suggestions, I'd appreciate that too. After RAI, my Dr. is starting me on 150 Synthroid and some Cytomel added in to start, although he wants me to stop the Cytomel after a week or so and see how I convert just on the Synthroid. He does seem willing to listen if that isn't working though..... W
Guest guest
When are the doing the scan.. if I'm not mistaken. Stopping Cytomel only dosing just a day or so before the scan is adequate..... Comments from anyone else on that??? You're going for ablation, to kill gland tissue, or for an uptake scan?? Missing all of June cuz of the RAI... that is ablation... why a whole month? I'm confused. Quarantine from adults is 3 days.. from children is longer,, 7 days? Can't remember right off the top of my head.. It might be rough for you after.... it's gonna take a while for the T4 to build in your tissues before conversion really gets going and you have T3 to function on again. (T4 is converted to T3 - which is the Cytomel that you are on now). There will be a transition period in there that will be rough for you... Guest guest
Hey , I had RAI January 10 and my doctor just started me on Synthroid on April 5...50mcg. He monitored my thyroid levels (labs thre times) before starting the medication to make sure my levels were going in the right direction. I had no problems or side effects from the RAI. Iam going up and down (emotionally and physically--kinda of like REALLY bad PMS) since starting the synthroid and will probably continue to do so until my body adjusts. I put off having the oblation for over a year and after having it done, I just wonder what took me so long. I know eventually my body will get used to the synthetci thyroid hormone and I will soon feel good again. It's a matter of waiting and patience. Guest guest
I thought a person didn't have to stop the T3 at all, for an uptake, etc.....Somewhere in my mind? Guest guest
I remember it as the day before thing.. that they pull the T4 and give T3 to keep you functional and then stop the T3 the day be for so that the gland will be sucking up the iodine... all aimed at using the least amount of iodine possible... Guest guest
I'm going for an uptake scan first, and then the next day I have the ablation to kill the remaining tissue....thanks for the heads up. I'm figuring on feeling like donk for awhile....
Guest guest
I maybe mistaken but if I am correct she already had a Total thyroidectomy in which thyroid cancer was discovered and is now on cytomel only to deplete the body of T4 as well as the low iodine diet so that they can follow up with RAI to make sure the cancer is completely gone.
