Guest guest
Okay, Ladies, my inquiring mind wants to know.... I am looking at a double mastectomy (one needs to go away, and I want to " match " ). I am not too thrilled with trying to keep up the " image " of having boobs. Flat is fine by me. Is anyone else going for this option? (Besides! What an excuse for a new wardrobe!) Lucinda
Guest guest
Hi ladies, Yes, inquiring minds want to know how everyone feels about going 'kind of topless' i.e. no boobs just your blouse? I mean, I wear my prosthesis not just for balance and to make todays clothes 'fall' correctly, but mostly for the rest of the world. People are so self-conscious out there in their mast free world. In the 22 years since my masts I've only gone without them one time (old age forgetfulness). But hey, I'm 60 now and I've thought about not wearing them recently. I mean I lose 5 pounds each night when I take them off, not really five pounds, but hey it makes getting on the scale before and after a real boost. *smile* I'd love to know your feelings. Blessings, prayers and positive thoughts to all. -- Angel (A.K.A. Mari) mfgershman@... Guest guest
I don't wear mine when I am in the house. I just wish I had had the other breast removed also so I could go without it when we have to go out. Guest guest
Hi Mari, I have a single mast, but have gone without my prost. in the winter. I'm small to begin with, and have worn loose shirts and vests. Even in warm weather I will just wear a loose t-shirt at times. I probably would feel a bit self-conscious if I were to were something tight, because I would be lop-sided. I think it's all in your attitude - I'm finding as I get older I care less about what others think. I took yoga for a few weeks before it dawned on my that my instructor must have had a bilateral mastectomy. I don't think that was entirely due to my cluelessness :-); I think she was not self-conscious and that made others not think about it. -
Guest guest
Dear , When I first saw prosthetic breasts, my initial reaction was " chicken cutlets. " I'll be damned if I'm going to walk around with chicken cutlets in place of breasts. I wonder if they float when they come up my bathing suit??? What's next? A pork roast in my jeans? ((I'm cracking myself up (one of those " laugh out loud " where the family says, " Mom, you ok? " )) I'll blame it on chemo again, as I do with everything silly I do. Remember, laugher feeds the soul and brings us all a little closer to being US again. We've got too much " livin " to live it in the dark...come on girls, smile........there you go! Guest guest
I think my attitude toward going flat has a lot to do w/ a friend I had in elementary school. She lost her leg in about 3rd grade due to cancer. It was amputated way up high, hip level almost. She had a prosthetic leg, but she rarely wore it because it was attached in a way that she had to remove it every time she went to the bathroom. We all got used to seeing her w/ her crutches or just hopping if she only had to go a short distance. She rode a bike one-legged and jumproped. She could do more pullups than any of the rest of us because she didn't have the extra leg weighing her down, and her arms were very strong from using crutches. She never felt sorry for herself, so nobody ever felt sorry for her. She didn't really care if being one-legged made other people uncomfortable. That's sort of how I feel. I shouldn't have to alter my body to make anyone else happy w/ my body shape. > > Hi ladies, > > Yes, inquiring minds want to know how everyone feels about going > 'kind of topless' i.e. no boobs just your blouse?
