Guest guest
Lucinda, I go braless in the house. I wish I would have had both breasts removed. I usually wear house coats so its not really noticeable. I do wear a bra and prosthesis when we go out as I am big breasted but if I had both breasts gone I wouldn't bother. Okay, Ladies, my inquiring mind wants to know.... I am looking at a double mastectomy (one needs to go away, and I want to " match " ). I am not too thrilled with trying to keep up the " image " of having boobs. Flat is fine by me. Is anyone else going for this option? (Besides! What an excuse for a new wardrobe!) Guest guest
I had my surgery in Dec. and have gone flat since then. I will probably get prothesis eventually but they will be small (probably A's), and I anticipate going flat most of the time. > > Okay, Ladies, my inquiring mind wants to know.... > > I am looking at a double mastectomy (one needs to go away, and I want > to " match " ). Guest guest
Hi Lucinda, I had a double in December; skin sparing on both sides with tissue expanders for reconstruction so I am lumpy. One side is bigger/lumpier than the other, the smaller side is the one I had a lumpectomy on 3 years ago but never had it " sized " to the other one. I ended up with the Amoena swim form prothethis for both sides, one is a size 7 and the other is a size 9. My breasts were large to begin with, but I wish I had got several sizes smaller when I got the breast forms. They are VERY heavy and with the lumpiness behind them they just look weird. I only wear them when I'm wearing something where the lumps would be really noticeable. I should have the expanders switched out for the implants in probably May or June, but right now I use the forms sometimes, wellm only when I feel like it really, like when I want to wear a sweater with an open jacket or something over it. Once I found out how uncomfortable I was with the forms I began to use them less and less. If you are not having skin sparing surgery in order to have future reconstruction and will be totally flat, all of this may be of no concern to you. But I would still advise going a little on the smaller side as the forms are really, really heavy...at least to me anyway:) I weighed mine believe or not = 4.2 lbs, it's almost like having a bag of suger sitting on my chest. > > Okay, Ladies, my inquiring mind wants to know.... > > I am looking at a double mastectomy (one needs to go away, and I want > to " match " ). Guest guest
Lucinda i wish i would have had both of mine removed. My surgeon talked me out of it. i imagine the healing would be hard, but worth it when it is over. i did not want reconstruction. i have a prostheses and agree it is heavy and uncomfortable. Maybe when i get used to it, it will get better. i do not wear it at home or on weekends--i guess i will have to in the summer---i just think everything would be easier with them both removed--maybe because my surgeon was a man is the reason he talked me out of it. Good luck with your decision. colleen Re: Prosthesis after mastemomy? Hi Lucinda, I had a double in December; skin sparing on both sides with tissue expanders for reconstruction so I am lumpy. Guest guest
Lucinda, Oh, how I wish I had gone with a double mastectomy when I had my lumpectomy 6 years ago! I am very large breasted with back pain all time. I have decided that within the next year, I will have enough time off saved up at my new job and I'm getting the " girls " removed for my birthday gift to myself! No, I'm not getting reconstruction - it will be wonderful to have the ability to buy shirts that fit! My Mom had breast cancer last fall and had a mastectomy on the side she had the tumor. She is 77 and they wanted to do chemo - her margins were clean and no lymph nodes involved, so she said no. Anyway, she lives with me and I had the biggest laugh this week - we were almost to church when she said " I forgot to put on my Sunday boob today " - I told her that I really didn't think God would be upset for her wearing her " everyday " one - you have to learn to laugh about these things!
