Kim,

I'm sorry you had to find us. I joined this group about 2 months

ago, soon after I had an ectopic pregnancy removed by laparoscopy. I

didn't rupture and my tube was saved. It's a long road to recovery

and finding this group was the best thing I've done on this journey.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had so many complications since your

surgery. I feel so new to all this that I don't have any solid

answers for you. I guess the best I can do is tell you how it was

for me after surgery. Ovulation was painful for the first time in my

life and my cramps during my period were awful. My period started 5

weeks after surgery. I have dealt with abdominal pain since my

surgery. I've accepted it as normal because I'm probably still

healing. We discussed pain after surgery once during this group and

there were a couple other women who had pain for a long time

afterwards as well, I believe. As for the spotting, I don't think it

ever hurts anything just to check it out with your dr. if you're

concerned.

Hi Kim,

I am so sorry for your loss. I had an ep in July of 99 and lost my right

tube after getting pg with o. induction. I am not really sure about the

spotting because after my ep I was passing(this is graphic sorry)really

really big clots at least three of them and before they would pass I would

get a pain right on the top of my private where my pubic bone is and as soon

as it passed the pain would go. My dr at the time told me not to worry that

sometimes the body is still in " shock " and you can expect bleeding and

spotting or passing clots and pains. But if your concerned definitely call

your dr. I am very sorry to hear about your complications after the ep I had

complications too and in two words NOT FUN. Well I look forward to talking

with you and you will find these women here are the best group of women you

will ever come across. Please take care.

Love,

Sheila

Hi Kim. Welcome to the group. I am

sorry about your loss. I hope we can be of some

support and help to you. My ep was treated with

methotrexate and not surgery although I was about 9

weeks along. I had difficulty with continual

bleeding, but I think mine was related to the

methotrexate. If you are still have some

discomfort and bleeding, it wouldn't hurt to call the

doctor. I'll keep you inmy thoughts. I

hope you get to feeling better soon. I'm sure those

blood clots are no fun. Take care.

introduction here. I'll try to keep this short,

but bad luckseems to follow me, so this may get a

bit long! After trying for about ayear, we

finally got a + hpt on June 26. On the 27th, my

spotting started. With weekly checks of hCG,

several ultrasounds and lots of spotting (almost40

days before it was all done), I was told twice that I

was having a m/c. The first time, the hCG

continued rising, and the second, it finally

starteddropping. I had no pain and at what

would have been 9 weeks gestation, thebleeding

stopped. About a week later, the spotting

started again and I hada little bit of pain in my

side, hCG at this time was about 137. My

OBwanted to see me immediately, so in I

went. They found the ectopic pg in myright

tube and within an hour I was having the

laparoscopy. He was able tosave my tube and

termed it a chronic ectopic - I would have been just

over10 weeks. hCG was negative 3 days post surgery

- finally. My doctor and I have sat down

several times to figure out how this could

bemissed so many times. We haven't come up

with any answers, but have a planfor the

future. A whole host of post-surgery

complications have popped up(bladder infection,

UTI, and then a lovely blood clot from my ankle to

myhip to match my clotting disorder diagnosis -

What fun!!), and we're dealingwith them as best we

can. So, here I am....3 weeks and 3

dayspost-laparoscopy and looking for some

answers.I have started spotting again, and I'm

quite scared about what could behappening. I

was told my cycles would return in 4-6 weeks, but 3

weeks tothe day of the surgery, the spotting has

started with some mild pain in thecenter of my

abdomen and off to my left side. So, that along

with all theseemotions I've got running through me

(I finally have had the time to processall that's

happened) have sent me on a search for others who have

beenthrough this, to see how they cope and maybe

have some of my fears put torest. I guess to

start with, my questions would be: should I be

concernedabout this new bout of spotting or assume

this is the start of a regularcycle? How

long do I let the spotting go before having it checked

out? Thanks if you've read this far, and

if anyone can shed any light on what maybe going

on with me right now, it will be appreciated.

Looking forward to having some support from

people who understand,Kim

Hi and thanks to you as well for the welcome. You've all been so

wonderful so far :)

As for the bleeding, I'm off to the doctor in the morning. Just my primary

care doctor but I'm going to bring it up with her and see if she thinks I

should worry or notify my ob. You know, if it were the start of my cycle,

that would be one thing, but simple spotting for 4 days now is just an

inconvenience and a reminder that things aren't as cut and dry as they used

to be.

The blood clot certainly hasn't been fun, but it's not the first time I've

had them either, so I'm somewhat of a veteran. It never does get easier

tho! At least the pain has subsided from it and now I've just got these

pesky pills! I thought at first I'd be happy when it came time to ttc

because it means I don't have to take them anymore, but I'm simply trading

them and their side effect for 2 shots per day...ICK!

Again, thanks for the welcome!

Thanks so much Sheila. Funny you mentioned the clots...I've had a few of

those today. Not that I'm happy you had this experience at all, but at

least I have hope that this whole spotting episode isn't completely unheard

of. Seems all of the " strange " things happen to me and speaking strictly in

terms of health, if something can happen to 1 in 1,000 people, I'm likely to

be that 1. Glad I found you ladies, you all seem so very wonderful!

Kim,

First of all, let me say that I am so sorry for your loss. You have come to

the right place. The girls here are very supportive, and you will find

comfort from them. It will not be easy, but it will get better. My ep was

in January (after trying for 5 months), and it still hurts. As far as the

spotting, I'm not sure what the normal is. I had a period exactly one month

to the day after my surgery. I would consult your dr if you have any

concerns though. If it is normal, then he/she will be able to tell you.

The pain does not sound normal to me, but I am not an expert so don't panic.

Just ask your dr, that's what he/she is there for.

You will be in my prayers,

Leah

i am sorry you had to find the group. but i am glad that if you had to have

such an awful experience that we can all be here for you.

i would assume that your bleeding is just your period starting. it isnt a

Thanks Crystal. The doc seems to concur with your opinion for now :) It

just puts my mind at ease after everything that's happened. It's like

validating something I already figured was the case, if that makes any

sense.

Hi Kim! I'm so sorry for your loss and that I am welcoming you so late. It

certainly sounds like you are having a rough recovery {{{HUGS}}} But it is

good that your dr has been so good to you and shared his time to help you

develop a plan for the future...I think it always helps to have a plan. I

don't think at this point I would be very concerned about the

spotting...being pregnant, having surgery, and then being suddenly not

pregnant, can do a lot to " mess " with your system. It may very well be that

you are starting a new cycle. I started a new cycle almost exactly 4wks

after surgery, so I don't think 3wks is that much different...the guidelines

of 4-6wks are just guesstimates...for some people it takes a couple months.

How did I cope? My best answer...this group! It was a lifesaver for

me...to know other people had been through this (as noone around me seemed

to really understand), and to know that so many other people who had an

ectopic were becoming pg again successfully! Also, it has been a great

place to ask questions, get advice, and to just plain vent if that is what I

needed. I hope that you will feel comfortable doing all those things too!

Take good care of yourself.

No kidding..we can all understand that - it's a pretty scary thing to

get a diagnosis of cancer. Do keep in mind that thyca is generally a

very treatable cancer, and most of us live long lives and die from

something unrelated.

> and am scheduled soon to sit down with the

This will be with 2 different types of doctors. You want a good

surgeon, one who does a LOT of thyroidectomies for part one. Info below:

QUESTIONS FOR YOUR SURGEON

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/25170

An experienced surgeon:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Thyca/message/24948

http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/dept/thyroid/surgselct.html

Then, you want to connect with a good endo (that's endocrinologist :-)

for coordinating treatment and doing follow-through. It's an

important doctor, because you need to be followed for life.

> I've been searching the

> web and have found a lot of good info., but am looking for more,

Very honestly, when there is a standard treatment available (surgery

followed by RAI (radioiodine) treatment that has such an excellent

track record, I would be VERY hesitant to look at " alternate " therapies.

> vitamin therapy, strenthening the immune system,

I do take vitamins - a good multivitamin's not a bad idea in general

There are some things that are supposed to be good immune system

boosters - like Vitamin C and Coenzyme Q10 - I took extra of both of

them for quite awhile after my diagnosis and especially after my RAI

treatment.

> and diets specific for thyroid cancer, if there are any

None that I know of, other than that we follow a low iodine diet for 2

weeks prior to any RAI scans or treatments.

>(I have been following an Adkins and

> Schwarzbein Principal type diet for my Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but

> am now concerned about effect of fat on cancer, and if it's OK to

I'm know there have been concerns about high fat (especially the bad

kinds) and breast cancer..but thyca is not, as far as I know,

connected with any eating habits.

>Any recommendations or words of wisdom?

Read, learn, ask questions. Get copies of your records as you go.

There's a wealth of information and support here. Hang in there. We

know how scary this all is, but you WILL get through it.

WELCOME to the group !!!

I am sure that it's hard with your son in the hospital, but think of it this

way, you CAN control weight watchers, even when you can't control other things

in your life!!!! :o)

Keep snacks with you for when/if you get stuck at the hospital for hours. Also I

know that here in the middle of nowhere USA where I live the hospital cafeteria

lists the fat, cal, fiber, sodium etc. for each item on the menu, which makes

counting points simple.

Good luck,

Hello everyone. My name is and I live in Japan. Thank you for

allowing me to join your group.

I was recently tested and would like to post my labs for you to look

at. The Japanese doctor has no plans to treat me - feels that I am

normal. So, I plan to see a doc this summer when I'm in the US.

Here's the first set of labs:

TSH 9.69 (0.49 - 4.67)

F-T3 2.20 (1.45 -3.48)

F-T4 0.77 (0.71 - 1.85)

T3 1.52 (0.80 - 1.60)

T4 7.62 (6.10 - 12.4)

Antibody test neg

One month later TSH retested, now 3.65

I have had symptoms for years - that seem to be getting worse. Any

thoughts?
