I am new to this group. I have had a thyroid for about 20 or more

years, but in the last year or so it has been hard to regulate and

for almost a year now I have struggled to find the answers. I

started in August with a new doctor who was very upset with my

thyroid blood labs and anemia and other testing. He increased and

increased my synthyroid......finally he added a small dose of

armour. The next week I had my first about with my new endo. I am

not impressed with the endo, but I guess he is trying. I am cutting

a lot out of this as to not make it too long or boring.

The new endo. hates armour and took me off the synthroid and armour

and put me on Levaxol (400 mcg). My TSH was over 100 several months

ago and now it is 80 plus rest of labs do not look that good.

Last Wednesday early in the morning the endo. called me and said he

had spoken to my family doctor and that somehow we had to do

something to facilitate improvement, because I was getting worse.

The family doctor called me and he told me how concerned the endo

was. See....the endo also asked me if I felt any chest pain or

anything. Well.......for about two weeks prior to this I have been

having chest discomfort and bad exhaustation and the list goes on.

The endo was upset over the chest discomfort and told me to go to ER

or call an ambulance. He called the family doctor back and then the

family doctor called me kind of mad that I hadn't let anyone know

about this. But, you know how it is you know they are sick of

dealing iwth you, etc? Plus, I have weird insurance that is only

eligible certain times of them of the month. The doctor wanted me

to getinto this cardiologist in the next 1-2 hours later and I said,

but I have no insurance. The cardiologist called me and said he

probably needed to do a heart catherization, but I needed to get in

there. I said, " No, I can't add another stress of more bills to my

list and that I would come in next week! " The regular doctor is mad

that I didn't go right in. I swear that it is because of the new

thyroid medication. I

I really can't do much. I mean I get up in the morning and I thought

about doing something and have a whole list of things I want to do

and I do one thing and that is all I can do for the rest of the day,

because I am wiped out. I am so impatient with all of this.

Has anyone ever experienced heart problems?

The second part of my question or expression is I have a very non-

supportive boyfriend and really have NO ONE to help me deal with this

except a counselor. My boyfriend and I have been together one year

next week. He is usually very good to me except every other weeek

when he gets his paycheck and then he drinks and we have problems.

Last night was a major one. He said all that I did was sit on my

FAT ASS AND HE CATERED TO ME...........that is so funny, because who

changed the bedding and did dishes and vacumned and everything else I

did yesterday? It is bad.

Anyway.......I am sure frustrated.

Barb,

You need to get hold of your labs and share them here. So we can

really see where you are at. I understand about refusing treatment.

I did that once at an insta care that thought I should be at the

hospital. With no insurance at the time I said no way was they

calling an ambulance I would go to the hospital on my own. In my

thyroid journey there is a few basics I have learned from the groups .

Endos are not the end all be all of thyroid most of them are better

with diabetes. Your better off with a doc that has thyroid problems

themselves or loved ones that do. They are usually more on top of

things. Synthyroid is crap and you are actually better off on

Levaxol, they have less recalls than the Synthyroid.

Can't help you with the chest pain, when I was so hyper they kept

asking me if I was having chest pain. Nope just atrial fibulation,

but no chest pain. Never even had heart burn. Had an Endo tell me I

was weird. Everything that was hard for most of her patients, was

easy for me and things that were easy for others, I struggled with.

This is the place to vent about the boyfriend. We all have loved ones

that we would like to strangle on occasion and they will never

understand what we go thru.

Barb:

You are in a tight spot there.

I am no expert, but I try to pass along the things

which I think would be most valuable.

Number one:

I don't know whether you live with this boyfriend or

not, but it would help to talk to him about where he

is at with this thing. You are not likely to recover

any time soon and the strain of having a relationship

to coddle isn't good for you at this time. Its

important that he either decides that he's commited to

being there through this process or he's not. Trying

to make him happy is really not where your best focus

is right now. You absolutely need to take care of

yourself before you go into the kind of decline that

you can't recover from.

Number two:

Its essential that you get up to speed on this

disease. Since you have no insurance, this is even

more critical. There are books you can get on Amazon

that are used. I'd start a collection and research

names such as Broda , Lowe, Peatfield,

Blanchard, Shamon, Arem, and Starr.

Rest assured -- the number of good docs out there, who

want to touch a hormone disorder are few a far

between. Unfortunately, if you leave yourself in thier

hands totally (work with someone if you can)...you

will only elongate your troubles.

That TSH is overly high and your frees need testing.

If you cannot get the doc to test you for these

things....then he's the wrong doc. Holistic,

Osteopathic, or even Nurse Practitioners who deal with

biodentical hormone replacement may be your best bet.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. We have all

had challenges like this. You can pull out of this,

but it will take patience and a dedicaton to the

process of getting well. Unfortunatley there are no

quick fixes with this one.

Good luck!

~E:)

Day after day, day after day,

We stuck, nor breath nor motion;

As idle as a painted ship

Upon a painted ocean.

Water, water, everywhere,

And all the boards did shrink;

Water, water, everywhere,

Nor any drop to drink.

~The Ancient Mariner
