Guest guest
Anyone have problems having their insurance covering their wigs? I got a script for a " cranial prosthesis " , went to the salon they recommended and bought one for they told me hair loss could begin as early as the first treatment. I called my insurance company (HMO) and they said my primary care physician had to submit a request for it so they can review and approve/disapprove and if approved they would send me to their vendor! Nowhere is this in our healthcare packet. In fact, not much is in the way of cancer treatment. I've done nothing but fill out paperwork for FMLA, short-term disability etc etc and now this but wait it gets a little better. I had a pap test a week after my lumpectomy/SNB and yesterday I get a call it was abnormal so now I must have a colposcopy. I'm trying to stay calm hoping it was because it was a week before my period started but how can you not think otherwise. *SIGH* -- Ekis
Guest guest
My insurance didn't cover wigs either; they cover arm, leg prothesis but not wigs, which is so bizare because everyone knows that one of the main things with having chemo is loss of hair. It's so sad isn't it? I went and bought 2 wigs, 1 human hair and 1 synthetic and to be honest it;s hard to tell which is which. I work in the insurance industry and find that most companies lack of compassion when it comes to an illness such as BC. -------------- Original message -------------- Anyone have problems having their insurance covering their wigs? Guest guest
- My health insurance covered my wigs (Tufts HMO in Massachusetts) up to $500.00. Also, why are you having a colonoscopy for an abnormal PAP?? My abnormal PAP led to a colposcopy and then a LEEP procedure. Maybe that's what you meant. Best of luck with the test anyway!! Your insurance should definately cover the wig - I hate insurance companies!!!! Hugs! Guest guest
, Sorry to take this long to get caught up on reading all the posts, but I had precheom lab and dr appts on Thursday and chemo yesterday. Anyway, try calling the American Cancer Society. Your local chapter may had a " Look good, feel better " program. Sometimes they had wigs or places where you can get on cheap. They give you a bag full of cosmetics and give you tips and using them. My chapter had just received a large donation of wigs from a shop that went out of business. Worth going for the cosmetics and tips. Also, meet several women going thru chemo or other cancer treatment. Hope your tests come back of. Will keep you in my prayers.
