Guest guest
I did contact my new oncologist yesterday because the pain in my knees, hips, back and the new pains and swelling in my hands and legs were getting worse. The doctor told me to discontinue the Arimidex for one or two weeks. He wants to see if it is the medication or something else. At least he is listening to my concerns. I hope that the pain eases. Guest guest
Jan, I'm sorry to hear about the effects Arimidex is having on you, although I've heard them many times before which should be reassuring. I started Femara on 2/2, after 2 years on Tamoxifen. I was having several bouts of daily dizziness, so he too has suggested I stop immediately. I wonder what his next suggestion will be? Guest guest
I have been on Arimidex since Oct 2003. Started on Tomoxifin Dec 2002. Was taken of Tomoxifin because of the cramps in my legs and swelling in my feet..Arimidex I have to take calcium to watch for bone loss...not as much cramping and swelling...I still get tired once in a while and have some weight gain... Guest guest
Hi, Can I ask a couple questions? When did your pain start? Was it only after starting the Arimidex? And does your pain travel to different places in the body? Like: sometimes it's worse in the back, them maybe worse somewhere else? I'm surious because I too have pain issues. I'll be watching the posts to follow...... thanks, Darlene jkoelsch1950 jkoelsch1950@...> wrote: I did contact my new oncologist yesterday because the pain in my knees, hips, back and the new pains and swelling in my hands and legs were getting worse. Guest guest
In response to Darlene's issues with Arimidex.....I have been on the drug since Oct 2006. I have a lot of joint pain issues as well.....After I had been on the drug a week, I had severe hip pain which went away after a brief period of time and would surface every few days for about a month....now I have the most pain in my R. knee as I do have Osteoarthritis and it travels up and down my R. leg...I had a L. knee replacement several years ago and have no problem with that side. I do off and on have back pain that seems to travel up and down the back, side to side....I am also on IV Herceptin weekly so am not sure if it plays a role in the pain issue. I take Tylenol and it dulls the pain making it more tolerable. Some days I am quite comfortable and the pain is not as severe. I also go to a gym and work out in a therapy pool a couple of days a week and ride a stationary bike plus some upper body strengthening exercises. This all seems to help some. I just tolerate the symptoms and try to keep busy as I have been told taking the Arimidex reduces my odds of recurrent disease by 50%..As long as I can move and do things, I will keep taking it for the prescribed period of 5 years. I know there are others who have stopped taking it and were given another alternative medication due to the side effects. I don't know if one is any better than another...They probably all have side effects. I guess you have to make a choice and decide what you are willing to put with.
