hair loss

Oh boy, I went through all this last year myself. The answer I got

from my neph was that technically no, kidney disease does not cause

hairloss. However, several of the meds I am on did, as did the

low-protein diet, and the fact that my body was stressed by a

long-term chronic illness. My solution? The long hair is now cut

short and I keep planning on picking up a box of Rogaine to try -

according to my doc's it's the only thing that really works.

This was the one thing that really got to me with the whole kidney

disease thing.

Thanjks for a great answer Kathleen. Hopefully that will resolve itself

with the transplant. I don't know why, but I found Amy G's post from

roughly 5-6 months ago on the subject very reassuring. She'd mentioned

that the hair growing in duiring one of her low pred dose periods was much

healthier. .

*sigh* Wouldn't that be lovely... I also hear that some of the

immunosuppressants give you extra hair as well, but it's usually in

places you don't want it.

  • 1 year later...

hi again

my mom has a gray haired friend who had cancer a few years ago. he lost

his hair during treatment but when his hair grew back it was as brown

as when he was a kid.

i'm hoping to have the same experience (i'm pretty gray!)

LOL..

Good luck reggie...

although they say hair can come back black, curly, grey, different colors and

textures, be prepared!! I knew I had grey as I had been coloring for years, but

when you are starting from square one again, I was like wow, look at all the

Grey! LOL.. it is said that once you have 2 inches of hair you can go back to

coloring !! And.. ya never know, you might just lucky!!
