Guest guest
have you done any resistance training? I see that you say you walk, but have you used weights at all? You can lose fat & add muscle just by doing some light resistance work! You may want to check into it. That would help drop your BMI & might take off those last few pounds. near Houston 349.2/325.2/
Guest guest
I am a breast cancer survivor and I'm looking for people to be on my slideshow on my myspace page. If you know anyone who has beat cancer without chemo or even who did chemo and it failed and then went on to beat it naturally after the drs said they would die, I would love to have their pic and info for the slideshow. I need pic, first name, age and yrs since their cancer....Thanks pics can be sent to read_isaiah_53_5@... Guest guest
Hi , Good for you, however, what I'd like to know is how did you beat it without using medicine? I'd be very interested in hearing what you did... There is such contraversy over medicine vs. holistic (if thats the route you went).. Also, what stage and type of cancer did you have prior to saying " NO " !? Guest guest
Michele, Its always good for us to check things out BUT please be careful if you decide against conventional treatments. I had 3 friends with a better prognosis than me and they all went with unconventional treatments NOT approved by the FDA and they all died within a few months of each other leaving 9 kids between them. If these so called " miracle cures " were so good the oncologists would be giving them. Anything not FDA approved can have anything in them. Guest guest
Marinanne, Thank you.. I'm so glad you watch out for all of us! I know, now that I read back I'm can see I'm reaching for straws.... I had a friend call from my radiation group this morning, we all kept each other company, etc, and came up with a list called the Friendship Angels and we have all kept in touch. Well, I am saddened to say that one friend got bad news, there is nothing else they can do for her .. she had breast many years ago, was recently treated for lung, did preventative radiation to the brain just as a precaution.. that was in September.. and here is is February and its completely in her bones and brain now... I have such a hard time hearing those words " there is nothing else we can do for you " from others and I'm sure we will all hear them at one point in our lives as well, regardless if a bus hits us or cancer gets to us, but it definitely eats away at me. Another member of the group, who was much older and already in a bad situation at the time because she couldnt' eat, etc, was admitted to the hospital as there is nothing they can do for her anymore either. I know all our paths are different, and I believe in our destiny at conception.. but sometimes I guess I get really wrapped up in this darn cancer and forget to get away from it! This is one of those stick your head in the sand moments!! I'll be fine after I talk myself back to all the positiveness there is and how many do live on. I had family members die of BC when I was a child 45 years ago - without chemo. I have family members alive now who are alive *after* chemo. I am going to be opting for chemo, even though I am afraid of its side effects. One thing that disturbs me is that you only want pictures of people who survived without chemo. What about those who chose to go off and died? Wouldn't it be a fairer picture to people to make decisions on if we know our odds with and without chemo? Best, and enjoy your new baby! Guest guest
There are no miracle cures, including those sanctioned by the FDA. The plain fact is that you can die if you use conventional treatments and you can die if you go the alternate route. You can, also, live either way! Years ago there was no chemotherapy, or it was not recommended for early stage, and I know of 3 BC victems, still with us, who had surgery alone! This is life and there are NO gurarantees. Guest guest
nne, We will never know whether they died or shortened their lives by quiting chemo or going with unconventional treatment. That is something we cannot know! In the devine scheme of things, He is the only one who does. Some who make out well with alternative or no therapies go on to live long productive lives, some don't. Some who use conventional therapies go on to live long productive lives, some don't. It's a crap shoot, just as life is. My sister's husband and my father died in their early 50s, one from a massive heart attack the other in an accident. All I am saying is that there are no guarantees. We cannot predict which course of action will benefit which woman with BC. Regardless my time is out there and will arrive, on schedule, whether I decide to go with the conventional or alternative. For each and every one of us the most important thing is to educate ourselves, take a good look at what we want and expect out of our life and choose the best course of action, to accomplish that! Guest guest
Well all I know is these 3 women had a better prognosis than I did and all 3 died. I am not the only one who feels that if they would have stayed with chemo/radiation they would have lived to raise their children. I know the one husband was distraught that his wife decided to switch to unconventional treatment as well as the family members. If these treatments were so good they would be widely used and accepted by the medical community. I agree, you have to look at everything and then decide. I will never regret getting the chemo. Guest guest
Hi Ruth, Just wanted to say that I understand your decision on how to approach your treatment. You did your research and I think made an informed decision for what was right for you. I think it is so important for us to be active in our treatment decisions. I know it's hard when this is all new for us and we're pressured to make decisions quickly. I also did my research and decided that chemo made sense for me. As my oncologist said, 5 years from now if I'm cancer-free she won't know if it was because of the chemo or because I would have been among the 27% of women who would not have a recurrence. But I liked the idea of being in the 88% of women who wouldn't have a reccurrence if I did the chemo. In the year and a half since my diagnosis there's been so much news about further being able to determine which women benefit from chemo, how to detemine treatment that is more individualized, and discovering genes that predispose us to cancer and what can be done to prevent cancer (vaccines being one new treatment). I can only hope that great strides continue to be made so that one day this group can just exchange recipes and travel tips! take care,

Guest guest
Hi , If I had been given those odds I may have chosen chemo as well! Chemo would have bettered my odds by 3%, not worth it for me, at least. I wanted to get the gardens in and did so 6 weeks after the mastectomy, dispite complications. I am a year out from my diagnosis and going strong. I've repaired the cracks on the ceiling and walls of the bedroom. The walls are sponge painted and the ceiling needs one more coat. We are in the process of installing a closet organizing system in the walk in closet. Groan have been in the guest room for 5 weeks and am looking forward to being back in our own room with new bedroom furniture, the first in 40 years! Ruth PS Did I mention that I got 3 of the fruit trees pruned, before the big snows hit? Hard to believe it is almost time to start the pepper plants. > > Hi Ruth, > > Just wanted to say that I understand your decision on how to approach > your treatment. On the other hand, I can't argue with anyone's decision not to do chemo. I have a good friend who was riddled with invasive cancer....stomach, kidney, lung, etc. She was told she'd be dead in 4 months without chemo. She was put on a really whopping dose of chemo, got about half way through it and felt so terrible, she decided she'd rather be dead than live like that, and quit the chemo. That was about 2 years ago and she is cancer free and feeling great today! Did the half dose do the job? I should add she's also a woman of great faith and had lots of folks praying for her. Did that do the job? Kathleen in Kirtland
