Guest guest
I have been scheduled for an uptake scan for the 23 and 24 of this month. Now I have been told not to take my Levothyroxine until after the scan. Can any one explain why? They have explained that it's a two part test. The first morning I will be given something not sure if it by mouth or injected. Then I am to go back six hours later and then the following day I will have stuff measured. Has anyone undergone this and what can I expect? Thanks, Robin
Guest guest
it is a uptake test, to get a better picture of the thyroid, or if thyroidectomy because of cancer to see if any thyroid tissue is left. well these are at least the most common reasons, but why no meds? usually if they want a elevated TSH at test time they will give cytomel till about 3/4 days before the test or inject synthetic TSH. > > I have been scheduled for an uptake scan for the 23 and 24 of this > month. Guest guest
Hi Robin, I had the uptake scan when first Dx with hashi and hypo. they have you take a radioactive pill, or at least I did. then you come back in think in two hours for a “baseline’ scan and then the next day for a series of films. they need to see how your thyroid takes the substance and if there are any hot or cold “spots”, etc. It’s painless but kinda long and boring and you have to lie pretty still while they bring the plate near your neck but it’s not as bad or nearly as say an MRI. it’s really totally painless and troublefree and it gives them a good idea of what your thyroid function is. sue I have been scheduled for an uptake scan for the 23 and 24 of this month.
