Guest guest
Kristi, Sending lots of good energy your son's way, I hope his biopsy shows minimal problems. Waiting for results is hard but trust me it's easier than getting a call from the neph saying " we got your preliminary results in and we need you in the office right away. " Hang in there. Amy G. Help! I thought I had this set up to where posts would be sent to my email address. I haven't been on in a while, just from being so busy. I'm a single Mom of 3... 14, 11 and 5. I would love to keep up with everyone and all the posts as there is sooooo much information. And from what I've read this is such a loving supportive group. Thanks, Kristi kristi_53@... Guest guest
I thought it would send posted messages to my email. I guess I need to check in daily. Just so happens our Neph called today on my lunch hour. The biopsy confirmed my son does have Igan. Good news is kidney damage is minimal right now, but his protien levels have been staying at 2X normal. Talking about putting him on meds to control that..... that makes me nervous as my son does not have high blood pressure so won't that med also bring down his BP? We have an appt in 3 wks to go over EVERYTHING with Neph. Thanks for your help! Kristi > It seems to be working Kristi. If you have any problems, let me or any of > the moderators know. Guest guest
Hi Kristi, My 13 year old son, , was diagnosed in January with IgA. doesn't have high BP either. He was taking 5mg of Enalapril from February to the end of May. His dose was increased to 10mg Memorial Day weekend. His most recent urine test shows that his protein has dropped considerably. The doctor was pleased and was VERY pleased. He hasn't had any side effects from the Enalapril except he felt more tired. He switched taking the medicine from the morning to bedtime and that helped. Good luck Elaine > > It seems to be working Kristi. If you have any problems, let me or > any of > > the moderators know. Guest guest
Hi Kristi, Welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. It's good news that his kidney damage is minimal. My daughter, Elisabet, was 10 when she was diagnosed. After her diagnosis, she started on bp meds (5mg Enalapril) even though her bp was normal to help reduce her protein levels. She's 13 now. And even after her bp meds were increased, it didn't reduce her bp that much and it did help reduce her protein levels. She was tired initally, but after a while her body adjusted to the medication. You've found a great place for information and support. I wish you all the best. Bjanes, Elisabet's mom > I thought it would send posted messages to my email. I guess I need > to check in daily. Guest guest
ACE inhibitors aren't known for reducing blood pressure much in people who don't already have high blood pressure. Even if it does, it's usually like 8 points if you're lucky. Often it's less than that, which is why people with more advanced chronic renal insufficiency usually need 3 or 4 BP meds at the same time. So, it should be Ok. To be frank, nobody really knows what decades of being on an ACE inhibitor will do. But, we do know that ACE inhibitors and their close cousins the angiotensin II receptor blockers have been proven to slow or sometimes even reverse damage from kidney disease if taken early enough. This doesn't mean it's guaranteed to do so, though. It's hard to say what a person should do when diagnosed with very early, very mild IgAN, because, there's a good chance that doing nothing will work as well as doing something. It's estimated that about 30% of IgAN patients eventually reach esrd. The trouble is, nobody knows who will be among that 30% group. It's generally-recognised that it's a good idea to treat proteinuria though, because that is definitely a risk factor for progression of the disease. I sympathize with you parents who have to make decisions about this. Pierre Re: Help! > Hi Kristi, > > Welcome to the group. Guest guest
Hi Kristi, That is good news that the kidney damage is minimal. If he is spilling large amounts of protein, it is important to get that down to protect his kidneys. I am glad you got a good report! Re: Help! I thought it would send posted messages to my email. Guest guest
Hey everyone. I'm 18 and I was diagnosed about a month ago w/ hypothyroidism. Do you know where I can get any information on...basically anything regarding this matter? My doctors aren't telling me anything I need to know. In fact I wouldnt even know I had this problem if I hadn't had requested my blood results and looked up the info on the internet myself (due to the recent change of normal tsh results from .3 to 3). I need all the help I can get. I was a freshman in college and became so depressed that I actually had to drop out. At that time I didn't know yet that it was a thyroid condition but after 7 months of medicine changes and therapy I knew there had to be something else wrong w/ me. I really want to go back to school in the fall so if anyone could help me find the quickest way to get this problem under control I'd be so greatful! Guest guest
Well Kahojo: You have to congratulate yourelf for figuring out as much as you have on your own! If I were in your position, I would get myself a shelf full of thryoid books and I would go to the About.com site that Shamon has so I could have a basis for my new understanding. That way you can come to groups like this one (this is a great group) and ask questions in a way that will get you the quickest most efficient answers to what you are going through. This is not an easy, one size-fits all disease so the more you know the better you can protect yourself from bad advice and misleading information. Good job so far! ~E:) --- kahojo18 kahojo18@...> wrote: > Hey everyone. I'm 18 and I was diagnosed about a > month ago w/ hypothyroidism. Guest guest
I don't know about getting it under control. I still have bad and good days. To help with the depression, see if you can get on an anti-depressant. I think the depression is a symptom of the thyroid condition. An anti-depressant helps me have more good days than bad.
