RE: helicopters offshore, helideck markings meaning??

i work offshore as a medic in the gulf (this is an old email address) and have a

24' x 24' helideck on my vessel with the following markings on it:

 

a very large " 5. " with a line underneath it then the numerals " 37 " under the

line.

email me off-list and i'll send you a pic of it. i'm having a hard time finding

out what the

heck that means. I even spent all day in a helicopter landing officer class and

the instructor

didn't know. any help???

The large 5 is the weight in thousands of pounds to the nearest 500 that the

deck is certified to handle. In other words, the deck is certified to

handle a helicopter weighing up to 5499 lbs. They'll generally handle more

than

that but that's what that platform is certified for. The 37 is the maximum

size of the heliport including safety fences.
