As soon as I told my mom about my test results, she told me she and my grandma both had thyroid problems. If my mom (who is also a nurse, by the way) had said something when I first started having symptoms, I would have gotten a real head start on treating my thyroid. As it was, I had my psychiatrist recommend that the thyroid be tested due to my depression. Oh well, at least we are getting the treatment we need now (and if I ever have kids, I will be sure to tell them so they can take care of themselves!) > > I had been through the doc circle , found out I had a goiter, ultrasound, testing etc and was had an ENDO appt booked and playing the waiting game.. I was lurking here and a few other places, and reading the medical sites when my mom phoned me and wanted to know if I knew anything about Grave's? I tried the family history route but it is as clear as mud..they kept strange records back then.. I know my dad's mom had told me she had thyroid problems and was placed on a special diet to gain wieght.( she was a ballroom dancer back in land) but once she gained wieght she developed a goiter.. I do know she has never been on Synthroid or replacement hormone.. her dad had to have a thyroidectomy because he could not swim.. believe it or not my dad doing research found the records and some newspaper clippings as he was some type of professional swimmer and that is exactly what they say.. Guest guest
Problem is, I was checked for it. Now, granted, I've never seen my labs. But my thyroid was enlarged for years. Bloodwork all came back within " normal " range, and truthfully, I never felt all that bad....so the Dr.'s told me it was fine....yeah right!
