Guest guest
Hi and Everyone in Support Group - Stopped by a few times but you were having problems with posts. Just wanted to let you know that I'm alive and kicking lol My last lab (about 4 weeks ago) showed that my TSH was in normal range .093. My blood pressure was great 110/68 and I thought things were finally looking up. The doctor said the T3 and T4 would just confuse things and that these labs were not covered under my plan. Anyway, a few weeks ago, my back froze on me while in the shower. I never had such excruciating pain. After lying on the couch for 10 hours, unable to move, I decided to call an ambulance. Couldn't even crawl to the door, so a fireman climbed in through a window. What an ordeal! After 2 days of lying on a guerney and getting continual shots of morphine, they sent me home. They said it was stenosis and sciatica. The morning of my discharge, my doctor told me the MRI showed that I needed to have surgery. Two hours later, a nurse stopped in and told me I was being discharged. The healthcare field in New Mexico leaves a lot to be desired. After another day on the couch at home, I was finally able to start walking, with a walker. The walks to the store are too much for me. I'll be getting kicked out of my apt. on Wednesday so I decided to go back to NJ. Will probably have to go to a homeless shelter, but at least I'll know the area. They say when you hit bottom, there's only one place to look. UP!!! Thank you and everyone else that helped me get through my crisis with my thyroid problem. You were all very kind and helpful. I'll be unable to take my computer with me, but will try to visit library periodically and I'll try to keep you posted with my progress. Thanks again for all of your help and concern. Take care and God bless. Jeff
Guest guest
Oh, Jeff, my heart goes out to you. What a terrible situation. But if your doc thinks that T3 and T4 tests would just confuse things, then he's an idiot that knows nothing about thyroid ! And I would be willing to bet my life that if they were done, you would find that you are drastically undermedicated - and that is more than likely why you've had these problems with your back. Hypos often get back pain, frozen backs, and sciatica-type pain. And before anyone says, yes, but, the MRI... I don't trust MRIs anymore than I trust doctors ! After all, it takes a doctor to interpret the images, with all his built-in ignorance and prejudices. Been there, done that, had the operation. And it introduced me to more pain than I ever imagined possible. It did not cure the problem, but the anesthetic left me more hypo than ever, and I finally got diagnosed. Now I've got my hormone replacement up to a reasonable level, I don't have these back/sciatica pain problems. Take care of yourself, Jeff. Hopefully one day you'll find a better doctor who will know how to treat you. Keep us informed - we'll be thinking about you. Guest guest
Hi Jeff, So sorry that things are as they are for you at this time but when you look up you will see from where your help will come. I will pray that there is someone in NJ that is looking for someone to take into their home and care for. Please keep in touch as we do care what happens to you. Guest guest
Oh, Jeff.. that bites... Hopefully moving back will let you find a doc that actually knows something.. I've never had a back seize up but I have had my leg seize.. quite a few times.. and that has lasted for days at a time... for me it all linked to synthetic T4, as long as I stay away from the stuff I'm fine... The trouble I do have with my back is a spasm thing when I'm up longer then my endurance can handle... My endurance is increasing so it's taking a bit longer each week to reach 'spasm'. When it does hit I have only a minute or two to sit or my legs give and I drop... A local member, who shall remain nameless cuz she doenst' get to group much any more (.. and if you're reading C jump in on this) is having a similar problem.. he doc said that it has something to do with a migrated nerve bundle... that as the muscles become fatigued and spasm that it affects the nerve bundle that is attached to the knees/legs and causes the fall. They had her in physical therapy for a while for it but the 'treatments' were causing far more pain than they were helping so she stopped. They claimed that this therapy would help to ease the nerve bundle back into it's proper position and strengthen her back. Interestingly enough her back issue started up after her dumb doc took away her Armour and put her back on Levo.... Now she's back on Armour, but we've not talked in a couple of weeks so I don't know how she is doing. Based on what they had her doing I've started doing sitting back exercises, to help strengthen my lower back muscles again. Borrowing from the position used with the back machines when I was still lifting, and following that range of motion... I assume it's helping.. I've having less trouble. We'll be watching for you to be checking in Jeff... be safe...
