Hi I am Alisha and I was really active in this group a year ago. See

in summer of 2005 I was diagnosed with Papillary carcinoma with

follicular varients, in 08/01/05 I had a total thyroid removal, and

rai treatment, and bodyscan. I go to my endo about every 6 months and

have blood work done every 3 months. In august it will be 2 years

since my surgery. I have only had my synthroid increased once, I

started out at 88mcg and I am now at 100mcgs, in my opinion its not

high enough but they were concerned with residual tissue growing. The

last appointment I just had with my endo was in Feb, and he is

referring me to get an ultrasound done by a specialist. This concerns

me because a part of me wanted to put all this behind me. I hate

looking at my scar, I hate feeling tired all day, I hate having dry

skin & hair and people telling me it's the weather. I guess I am just

scared, until I get this ultrasound I will have this worry haning over

my head. I was just wondering if anyone out there has heard of the

reoccurance rate? I know that it can spread, I was just wondering if

anyone here has heard anything?

Synthroid does not stimulate the thyroid. TSH is not a thyroid

hormone but a pituary hormone..TSH stands for thyroid stimulating

hormone.. the standard protocol with thyroid cancer patients after

surgery and RAI is to increase the synthroid to keep the TSH

supressed to under 1 if not closer to zero.

Average full dose replacement for Synthroid is 1 mcg per 1lb.. so for

your dose you should be 100 lbs.

I have no personal experience with thyroid cancer. I do know that

most forms of thyroid cancers have over a 90% success

rate..unfortunately I also know yuo will have to go through scans ,

procedures for the rest fo your life to make sure the cancer does not

return.

I know it does not help much when you are the one waiting and

worrying though...hugs.....and update us after the scan..

sorry I'm not more active lately.... I'm just really brain fried with all the stuff going on at Tech... the press won't leave. Did I mention I really don't like the press?? ;) I flipped a reporter off the other day... it felt really good. I'm popping adrenal pills again, sleeping as much as I can (to keep them charged) and living off of comfort food. Like everyone else lately easy foods are the best. I'll be active when I can. Everyone in Blacksburg right now just wants to either get high or drunk and I completely can't blame any of them LOL. It was wierd seeing the President's motorcade the other day. Seeing , Couric & Matt L. was really odd. I feel like I'm in a movie.

All I have thought about lately is the film 'We Are Marshall'. The school is only a few hours away and the movie helps me to remember that eventually things will go back to 'normal' eventhough it doesn't feel like it right now.

I'll talk with you later, I'm going to go drool & get some sleep later.

Hi andrea The news at V Tech is so tragic. My daughter is wearing her orange and maroon today in honor of Hokie Hope Day. I can understand the pain your community is feeling. I was at the UF when Danny Rollins the serial killer was on his rampage. Very scary. This kinda brings it all back. The press do seem knda annoying at this point...Lucy Ling was on Oprah th eother day and was very annoying! My prayers.... ALi Ahmuty Teague wrote: sorry I'm not more active lately....
