Guest guest
Haven't posted in awhile...hope everyone is well! I had my TT on April 4th. It was very involved and took almost 7 hours. The goiter was so big, it took my Dr. 2 hours to locate my vocal cord nerve since it was nowhere near where it was supposed to be. I'm glad he was patient and looked! The goiter(s) itself was huge, but so was my thyroid. It was wrapped around my spine - ack. Anyway, I'm recovering well. It's almost 2 weeks post op and I'm feeling pretty perky. Almost better than I was before the TT. Much more energy. Right now I'm on Cytomel 2x/day. I have a feeling I was undiagnosed hypo for years. I was " high normal " with my bloodwork. The endo was the first Dr. ever to run antibody tests, which were positive. My thyroid was noticed enlarged years ago, but since my bloodwork all came back " within normal limits " the Dr.'s I saw told me it was fine. Yeah RIGHT. Bad news is, I definitely had cancer. The tumor was large (about an inch). So, I meet with my endo on Wednesday to discuss what comes next. Any BTDT's would be appreciated! I want to make sure I go in to talk to him armed with good information. Woods
Guest guest
The next step should be a low iodine diet..followed by RAI.. this is important as you want the RAI to reach any thyroid tissue left remaining in your body.. after RAI the doctor can switch your cytomel to Synthroid but do realize it takes 6 weeks for Synthroid to reach the optimal level in your body at that dose so you do not want to cold turkey the Cytomel when you start Synthroid.. The other thing is you want to make sure the doc continues to run labs every 6 weeks and that the labs include FT4 and FT3 until you reach your optimal dose and have no hypo symptoms. So labs, dose adjustment, labs, dose adjustment, labs etc..and then in 6 weeks again after no dose adjustment to make sure all is good. I go to the endo tomorrow, so we'll see what he says and how soon I am expected to do the RAI. I would rather wait until school lets out so my husband can take my kids away for a week as long as that doesn't endanger my health.
